Detroit Institute of Art
Considered to house one of the best art collections in the United States, the Institute showcases everything from mummies to modern art and African masks to Monets in its outstanding collection of over 65,000 works. Admission is only $14 for non-local residents. Admission: $14 per non-local adult
Belle Isle
Belle Isle is a 982-care island park in the Detroit River, between the US & Canada. Home to a dozen landmarks & called the "Jewel of Detroit". Great place for taking a scenic drive, hiking, visiting the aquarium, or spotting mink, owls, foxes, beavers, or a bald eagle. You do not need a passport to go, but do switch your phone data off while on the Island as you may get international roaming fees as it connects to a Canadian cell tower. Cost: $9 / vehicle day pass for out-of-state guests
Cranbrook House & Gardens
Public tours of the incredible 1908 English Tudor mansion resume this summer, and the 40 acres of immaculate gardens are free to enjoy. The campus also contains art and science museums. An easy way to spend a day appreciating beauty in all forms.
