Question

About the historic chapel

Answer

One of the most popular wedding locations in Savannah, Whitefield Chapel serves as an ideal place to say, “I do.” This historic chapel has hosted weddings for superstar Paula Deen, actress Mandy Moore, and country singer Joe Nickles. The National Society of Colonial Dames donated Whitefield Chapel to Bethesda in 1918. Construction was postponed due to World War I and was completed and dedicated in 1925. The chapel is nestled under majestic oaks lining Bethesda’s scenic campus and welcomes more than 20,000 visitors each year. The chapel is named for George Whitefield, Bethesda’s founding father, and features wooden pews, a herringbone brick floor, and a picturesque interior with ten large picture windows. The pews, chandeliers, and altar are all original. The chapel also features a baby grand piano, wooden gated altar area and a beautiful stained glass window facing the congregation.
