Carolyn and her brother Rob used to get mistaken for fraternal twins as children and have stayed close ever since, sharing a love of goofing around, being outside, and having long philosophical conversations. All jokes aside, watching Rob become a supportive life partner to Katelyne and caring father to Billy and Rowen has been one of Carolyn's favorite life experiences, and being Auntie Carolyn is a dream come true.

Having “matured” from a brotherhood dynamic characterized by Sean playing the role of instigating elder brother and Andy the role of easily-antagonized younger brother, Sean and Andy evolved to recognize their shared taste in fine cuisine and music. Both Andy and Sean have been fortunate to have Ashley as a calming, rational influence on both of them for over two decades, and Andy is delighted to be an uncle to Emma and Maddie, partaking in their craft projects and creative new games whenever they let him join.

While Matt may have started out as Carolyn's baby brother, he has now morphed into her financial advisor--the twists and turns of life! Matt & Sierra are avid surfers and skiers, and doting parents of Rosie the woodle!

Andy and Tim grew up sharing an interest in running, basketball, and science. Andy followed Tim’s lead to Colby and was eventually fortunate enough to be (foolishly) adopted as a roommate by Tim’s then-girlfriend, Abbie. Tim and Abbie still tolerate Andy, and have shared countless fun hiking, running, skiing, and camping adventures across New England and the west over the last nearly 20 years!

Carolyn and Natalie go way back to junior year of college! Natalie famously posted on Carolyn's Facebook wall asking if they should just run away to South America after graduation, thus cementing their friendship. The adventures of La Caro & La Nati began in Chile and Argentina, and have continued ever since--meeting up in Colorado, Arizona, California, Maine, and more.

Holly and Andy met in McCall, Idaho, immediately recognizing each other as kindred spirits in silly dance moves and nonsensical jokes. Holly has been a supportive friend and adventure buddy, braving whitewater and mountain goats on backcountry camping trips, and sharing long life chats at creekside hot springs.
Marielle Meurice

Carolyn and Marielle lived together for multiple years in college, and traded the bars of Chicago for the buses of South America after graduation, spending a month traveling through Chile and Argentina. They've been meeting up to get outside ever since, and Marielle's cat Fleur can be credited as one of Carolyn's gateway cats on her journey to adopting Spruce.

Jake and Andy became friends in McCall, Idaho, taking advantage of seemingly endless lift-laps, backcountry tours, and whitewater paddles central Idaho provides. Andy knows he can always lean on Jake’s positivity and friendship for a smile, keeping him centered on the important parts of life.
Lindsay Bourgoine

Carolyn and Lindsay met while hiking out of the AMC's Lakes of the Clouds hut on Mt. Washington in 2013. It wouldn't be until four years later when they were both living in Colorado that they would build a friendship based on skiing, long life chats, and Cheez-Its. Surviving epic adventures like the 2017 Grand Traverse together and continuing to prioritize skiing together across the distance for the near decade since, Lindsay has handily earned her title as "ski wife."

Kathryn and Andy met in Idaho during graduate school, and quickly grew from mutual tree-nerds to fast friends, supporting each other through academic challenges, out-of-state moves, and off-road adventures. Both migrated to the mountains of McCall to complete their dissertations, and have enjoyed reuniting across the country over the last several years.

Despite not spending a ton of time together growing up, Carolyn and her cousin Julie have ended up leading intertwined lives as adults, living together in the same city and the same house on two occasions! Bonded by a mutual love for loudly exclaiming about how beautiful the natural world is, Julie and Carolyn have become like the sisters they never had.

Zach and Andy met on the first day of college and immediately bonded during a backpacking orientation trip and then across several cross country and track seasons. They have stayed close friends over the years, regularly catching up at Zach’s family home in Vermont, and supporting each other through life’s highs and lows.

Kate is part of Carolyn's Truckee family! They met while teaching at TEA in 2019. Kate has taught Carolyn to enjoy the subtler elements of nature, IDing birds, wading through lupines, and tolerating heat over 65 degrees.

Mike and Andy met on the cross country team at Colby where they recognized each other as long-lost brethren. These days, each take turns holding the mantle of “least mature brother.” Mike, a devotee of the written word, keeps Andy entertained with his weekly musings on the world, and Andy in turn provides Mike with unsolicited feedback.

Debrah is a central part of Carolyn's Truckee family! Debrah and Carolyn were coworkers first, and then quickly ski partners, running buddies, and adventure companions. From long runs in the Eastern Sierra to skiing Mt. Lassen, to after school ski tours in Truckee, Debrah and Carolyn's have never run out of adventures to share!

Nikolajs and Andy met in college and have stayed friends since, keeping track of each other’s frequent relocations, and finding fun places to meet up in between. Whenever facing a decision, Andy knows he can always rely Nikolajs to help steer him toward — or away from — the smart choice.

Callie is another member of Carolyn's Truckee family! Carolyn and Callie have always bonded over hiking, backpacking, snowsports, and long life chats over beers at the river, the lake, or in Callie's backyard. Callie wins for shuttling Carolyn on the most sections of the Tahoe Rim Trail when she ran it in 2020.

The Carols meet-cute was in a trailhead parking lot in 2019, and they've been inseparable ever since. Both big fans of exploratory sufferfests in the mountains and skiing bad snow, the Carols are always up to something questionable. Caroline and Andy bonded quickly over their similar sense of humor, love for the outdoors (and for Carolyn). Keep your eyes peeled for their bird app Warbler, hitting phones everywhere sometime soon.
