Don’t leave Washington without visiting the iconic Pike Place Market. You can browse crafts, produce, and the most beautiful flowers, as well as watching the vendors throw fish. Remember to stop in at Market Spice, a tiny shop where you’ll find the best teas and spices to take home as souvenirs. (Try the Princess Grey tea—a Schreiber family favorite.)
Tacoma's glass museum features incredible artwork plus a giant space where you can observe artists as they demonstrate their techniques. Looking for cool museums in Seattle? We recommend the Seattle Art Museum and its outdoor Olympic Sculpture Park, or the Pacific Science Center, which features all sorts of entertaining hands-on exhibitions.
Fremont is a fun and quirky Seattle neighborhood where you can easily spend a whole afternoon. Start with a highly Instagrammable visit to the Fremont Troll -- a giant work of art under a neighborhood bridge -- then stroll over to Theo Chocolate for some delicious treats and a tour of their factory. End your day with a pint at Fremont Brewing's Urban Beer Garden.
Another lovely Seattle neighborhood is Madison Park, where you'll find a cluster of cafes and shops near a public swimming beach on Lake Washington. (Swim out to the diving platform if you dare--the water is cold!) Have brunch at Cafe Flora, take a stroll around the park, and finish with an ice cream cone from Scoop du Jour (the blackberry ice cream is Caroline's favorite). You can also drive or walk through the nearby Arboretum and University of Washington Botanic Gardens to enjoy the beautiful landscape.
Staying in Olympia? You'll find plenty to do on the Waterfront. There's a bustling Farmers Market, and you'll find several places to rent a kayak, canoe, or stand-up paddle board if you'd like to encounter some harbor seals up close. Feeling hungry? Try The Bread Peddler for fresh pastries or Oly Taproom for pizza and a pint. For a quick hike that takes you through the forest and onto the beach, there are great trails at the nearby Evergreen State College.
Where else in Washington would you like to go? Head to the Seattle Ferry Terminal for a quick trip across Elliott Bay to Bainbridge Island, where you'll find shopping, restaurants, parks, and more. Or venture towards Canada with a trip to the San Juan Islands. The ferry system is very user-friendly, and it's always fun to take a boat trip and see the sights from the water.
