George and I matched on the mobile dating app, Hinge, on July 13, 2018. Immediately after that, I decided that I was no longer going to look for love on dating apps, so I deleted Hinge. Almost a month later, I decided to give the app another chance. I looked through my match history and noticed this very handsome dude with an interesting last name. I decided to reach out to George, saying: "Hiya, I'm sorry this is so late. How are you?" We set up a brunch date for August 12 to meet for the first time. I reached the restaurant, Extra Virgin in New York City's West Village, before George. I remember sitting outside and looking up to see an extremely sharply dressed man approaching me. He had a beaming smile, extended his hand (as if he was making a business deal with his most important client over brunch), and introduced himself.
On the nine-month anniversary of when we first met, we visited Central Park on the coldest, rainiest day in May. Caroline had previously remarked that she could never manage to get a good photo by the park's Bethesda Terrace and Fountain. Little did she know that I had planted a photographer to snap memorable photos of us. As I got down on one knee, I recited to her a poem by Khalil Gibran: "God made the world with a heart full of love, Then He looked down from Heaven above, And saw that we all need a helping hand, Someone to share with, who’ll understand. He made special people to see us through The glad times and the sad times, too; A person on whom we can always depend, Someone we can call a friend. God made friends so we’ll carry a part Of His perfect love in all our hearts." I added, "Ever since we’ve been together, I’ve known it true that this person is you. So today, I’m asking if you’ll be my lifelong friend, my partner for life—my wife." Caroline smiled and said "Yes!"
