Fly into Galeao Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport (GIG). We recommend Uber for those travelers not fluent in portuguese. At the airport, pickups are done on the departures floor (upstairs from baggage claim level) at Terminal 1 and 2. A typical ride from the airport to Ipanema will take 35-55 minutes (23km) and will cost ~R$50 or $10 (1 BRL = 0.2 USD). If the weather is hot, we recommend that you upgrade from UberX to Uber Comfort as many UberX cars do not have air con. If you are only going for the weekend, we recommend you stay in Ipanema or Leblon and we have pre-selected a hotels where you can get discounted prices. There are also Airbnb options available. If you are going longer, Barra de Tijuca is a good area, and where we are going to be the week before. The ceremony and celebration will take place at the cultural heritage site Parque Lage, located in the Jardim Botanico neighborhood at the foot of the Corcovado, on top of which the Christ the Redeemer is located.
