La Aurora International Airport

Guatemala's main airport is La Aurora International Airport (Airport code GUA) located in the capitol city of Guatemala City. United Airlines recently opened up daily direct flights to and from Guatemala from Newark Airport (EWR). There are also United flights out of EWR with a layover in Houston which is the recommended layover hub if you do not go direct. There are also daily direct flights from JFK Airport to Guatemala City either through Avianca Airlines or JetBlue. Flights will range from $350-$600 depending on where you are flying from and how soon you book your flight. We love using Google flight tracking to alert us of deals for dates of travel. As you plan your trip, please note Antigua, Guatemala is about 1 hour from Guatemala City. We will have transportation options available to and from the airport - please see the link below.

Transportation to Antigua

We are working with Antigua Tours, and recommend booking their services in advance. You can book your shuttle directly through a website specific for our guests. Round trip cost from the Airport to Antigua is $45 per person, or $25 each way per person if booked separately. We know most flights back to NJ are late on Sunday night, Antigua tours has agreed to offer a 6pm shuttle, all you have to do is book the 2pm shuttle on the website on the notes add that you want the 6pm shuttle and confirm with them either via Whatsapp (+502) 5710 7911 or email weddings@antiguatours.net. You can also arrange transportation from Guatemala City to Antigua directly with your hotel. We recommend going straight from the Airport to Antigua. Once you are in Antigua, the city is small and very walkable. There are tuktuks, taxis and Uber available if you get tired.

Transportation to Lake Atitlan (Panajachel)

For those of you looking to extend your vacation and go to Lake Atitlan before the wedding I figured I would facilitate a transportation sign up sheet to see when different groups land and vans/shuttles/private car arrangement. If most people land around the same time Antigua Tours quoted me a 15 person van for $425 for Airtport to Panajachel leg, around $28.50 per person and $395 for a 15 person van for Panajachel to Antigua around $26.50 per person. If you fly in on Friday, 7/26 at night into Guatemala City, I'm recommending to stay the night at the AC Hotel by Marriot Guatemala City in Cayala and depart early to Lake Atitlan Saturday morning. Victor and I will be departing from this hotel on Saturday, 7/27 early in the morning to the Lake

There are hundreds of beautiful Airbnbs in town, which can be very inexpensive! Specially for big groups. Our only recommendation is to try to stay downtown, near Parque Central (Central Park) so you can still walk around the city! As with anything else, feel free to ask us before booking!
