Valerie and I met at work. We didn’t necessarily see eye to eye and often bumped heads. We knew that although we disagreed from time to time, we were both passionate about what we did for a living and that was our first common ground. After a major broadcast crisis one August afternoon in 2016, we saw each other at our best under the worst of the circumstances (professionally speaking). Something driven by admiration and respect sparked, and minutes later we’d both find out. Only days after we started dating, an incredible opportunity knocked on her door and unfortunately, it meant we would need to live in separate cities. Hell of a moment, one week in... We thought about cutting our losses for a split of a second, but then took a deep look around and agreed that if we both knew two people who could overcome that, it was us. From that day on, we both committed ourselves blindly to forging the relationship we always wanted and never had. We organized and structured everything around us so that we were always the priority above all. We swore to respect each other at a distance, and to remain loyal to the ideal of achieving a near-perfect relationship so that the challenges that came with the territory, literally, didn't affect us as much. We made inhuman efforts to reject temptations. We had a clear goal and objective in mind and heart, and none of us were willing to allow anything or anyone to get in the way. The money we earned, we invested in us. In traveling to see each other, in creating memories together, in building the foundation of our relationship. We did not let a day go by without seeing each other, sometimes we even tried to connect when we woke up and also when we went to bed despite the time difference. Technology after all, was on our side. Three + years later, we still devotely believe in that commitment and are extremely excited for what’s to come. Valerie y yo nos conocimos en el trabajo. No siempre estábamos de acuerdo y a menudo chocábamos. Sabíamos que aunque tuviésemos diferentes opiniones, a los dos nos apasionaba nuestra profesión y ese fue nuestro primer punto en común. Luego de sobrevivir una crisis de transmisión una tarde de agosto en el 2016, nos vimos en nuestro mejor momento bajo las peores circunstancias (profesionalmente). Algo impulsado por la admiración y el respeto, encendió una chispa. A solo unos días de haber empezado a salir, a Valerie le llegó una oportunidad increíble que significaba que viviríamos en distintas ciudades. Se podrán imaginar, una semana después de haber oficializado la relación... Por un breve segundo pensamos en terminar y minimizar nuestras pérdidas, pero rápidamente supimos que si habían dos personas en el mundo que podían superar esto, éramos nosotros. Desde ese día nos comprometimos ciegamente a forjar la relación que siempre habíamos querido y nunca habíamos logrado. Nos organizamos y estructuramos todo alrededor nuestro para que nosotros siempre fuéramos la prioridad por encima de todo. Nos juramos respeto, a mantenernos fieles a la idea de alcanzar una relación casi perfecta con los desafíos que naturalmente vienen de una relación a larga distancia. Hicimos sacrificios para rechazar tentaciones. Teníamos una meta clara en nuestra mente y nuestro corazón y no permitimos que nada ni nadie se interpusiera en el camino. El dinero que ganábamos, lo invertimos en nosotros. En viajar a vernos, en crear memorias juntos, en construir la base de nuestra relación. No dejábamos que pasara un día sin vernos, a veces intentábamos conectarnos en la mañana al despertar y antes de dormir a pesar de la diferencia de hora. La tecnología fue nuestra mejor aliada. Hoy, después de tres años juntos, seguimos creyendo fielmente en ese compromiso y estamos muy entusiasmados con lo que está por venir. ¡Esperamos que te unas a la celebración de nuestro amor y nuestros logros!
