The cliff walk is a must-see, 3.5-mile path with panoramic ocean views on one side and the historic Newport mansions on the other. Enter at Memorial Blvd and Eustis Ave (you don't need to walk the whole thing!). You can even peel off the path and take a formal tour of some of the mansions, including Rosecliff (where The Great Gatsby was filmed).
Thames Street is the heart of Newport's thriving downtown/waterfront area and where the Newport Harbor Hotel is located. It is lined on each side with countless bars, restaurants, shops and historic homes. Some of our favorites are: Midtown Oyster Bar, Fluke Wine Bar, Diego's and One Pelham.
This scenic drive, also known as Ten Mile Drive, (or just "The Drive" to locals) encompasses most of the southern coastline of Aquidneck Island. This area used to be farmland, but today is one of the most popular Newport attractions. Lined with state parks, its a great place to drive, bike, run or just sit and watch the views.
Enjoy Newport from the water with cruises offering spectacular views of Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay. With the dock located right next to the Newport Harbor Hotel, this is a convenient way to get out on the water. Tickets for the Madeline or Rum Runner II should be booked in advance!
See below for some of our favorites. We definitely recommend making reservations if you plan to stay the weekend: - Midtown Oyster Bar (great restaurant with extensive menu) - Clark Cooke House (nice dinner with a sprinkle of history) - Fluke Wine Bar (our favorite for a nice dinner out) - Diego's (awesome Mexican in prime location) - One Pelham (fun bar with games & live music) - Castle Hill Inn (stop for a drink on the lawn) - The Landing (casual and usually easy to get a table on the spot) - The Surf Club (great outdoor bar and easy to get a table inside) - The Black Pearl (prime location, especially outdoor bar) - Pour Judgement (dive bar where the locals go)
