In the Spring of 2014, Amanda was completing her Bachelor's degree at Binghamton University. Eli had graduated the prior December from Binghamton and was finishing his accounting internship in NYC. He had plans to return to school to spend time with his friends for the rest of the semester. Eli messaged Amanda on an online dating app and the two began to talk for a while. Eli asked Amanda for her phone number, and when Amanda was busy and didn't respond for 20 minutes, Eli thought Amanda gave up on him. Amanda had replied but Eli didn't bother to check his account - he spent the next several weeks in Binghamton partying with his friends. Then, as Amanda was walking through Bartle Library, she got a text out of the blue from a number she didn't recognize from some guy named Eli. Amanda finally put it together that this was the same guy who she gave her number to that never texted her. Luckily for Eli, she gave him another chance and agreed to a date. Because this was the first time Amanda was going on a date with an online stranger, she insisted Eli meet her in the Student Union for lunch (the most busy time of the day). They ate terrible Mexican food and talked for over 3 hours! Amanda had back up plans with a friend to go shopping if the date went south, but she enjoyed talking with Eli so much that she told her friend to go without her (she clearly really liked Eli). It was a beautiful spring day (shocking for Binghamton) so Amanda and Eli went for a lovely walk in the nature preserve on campus once Amanda realized Eli wasn't a total weirdo. Two months later, Eli asked Amanda to be his girlfriend over chocolate mousse cake. They shared their first "I love you's" in Sandwich, MA later that summer, where they are making their love official with saying "I do" 8 years later!
