Brad and I met at Baker University in 2017 at a continuing education course in music. On the first day, everyone introduced themselves and shared where they taught. As we went around the circle, I noted Brad taught in the same school district as me (this was before my first year of teaching, so I didn’t know anyone yet!). I distinctly remember thinking, “I need to introduce myself to him!” Over the next two weeks of class, we would chat occasionally. We even got to folk dance together! Brad has since admitted he was nervous to be my dance partner. (Probably because I am a great dancer!) I thought he was cute, but we were about to be colleagues and I didn’t want to make anything “weird.” The course ended and we parted ways, until we met again at a seminar before the school year began. At this point, I definitely had a little crush! I happened to see Brad’s profile on a dating app and thought, “What’s the worst that could happen?” I swiped right and sent him a message. From there, we began texting. For our first date, we saw a scary movie and got ice cream. This became a tradition for us (we ditched the scary movie part!) and always go get ice cream at the same shop on our dating anniversary! We got engaged in the summer of 2019. He managed to pull off such a sweet surprise! We were at my family reunion and it was so wonderful to share that special moment with everyone there! We jumped into wedding planning and set our date for June 27, 2020. Our plans changed drastically as the pandemic began. We still got married that day in a very intimate ceremony. The day was lovely and so very magical. This summer, we plan to renew our wedding vows and dance the night away at a reception with our extended families and friends. How many people can say they’ve had two weddings with the same person? Our journey has been unique, but we wouldn’t trade it. I have truly found my better half in Brad and I can’t wait for all of the amazing adventures that are ahead of us.
