The cliffs are absolutely beautiful! Feel free to go have a walkabout. The whole hike is about 2 1/2 hours, and there is a stop for tea, coffee, and tunnocks tea cakes along the way- but if you’re not up for the hike, just going to the lookout is a must. There are also kayaking and canoeing services available.
Historic abbey featuring impressive ruins, and a small museum with exhibits on the Declaration of Arbroath.
Beautiful beaches on which to take a nice stroll, and perhaps bring a picnic.
Signal Tower Museum is located near Arbroath’s picturesque and busy Harbour, in a complex of buildings which were originally used as the shore station and accommodation for the Bell Rock Lighthouse. Built in 1813, Signal Tower served the lighthouse until it was decommissioned in 1955 and became a museum in 1974. Visit the museum and hear about the story of the magnificent Bell Rock Lighthouse, and how the coastal town’s connection with the sea has influenced Arbroath’s social, industrial, and ecclesiastical history.
Lovely place for a walk around the pond and water tower, and there are tons of swans and ducks.
Very easy to get to! Car park is before the bridge at the cemetery, go down the steps and you’re there. There is also a nature trail.
Beautiful place to take a walk or a hike, and a great photo spot.

About 50 minutes from Arbroath.
Note: Tours are the only way to visit Hospitalfield! Hospitalfield House is a very special 19th century Arts & Crafts house, built on the site of a medieval hostel or hospital established by the Benedictine order of monks who founded Arbroath Abbey. Their tours give an insight in to this history with a focus on the insightful 19th century vision of the artist Patrick Allan Fraser and his wife Elizabeth. At Hospitalfield, the Allan Frasers weren’t so much creating their home, but a place of learning for artists of the future. The tours touch on their legacy into the 20th and 21st centuries; the Art School which opened in 1902 and our continuing contemporary art programmes. The Garden Tour, on the first Friday of the month, is led by knowledgeable volunteer guides as they lead you around the walled garden at Hospitalfield. Designed by the horticulturalist Nigel Dunnett, and opened to the public in 2021. Each month focuses on a particular theme in more depth.
If you’re up to a day trip to Culross (about 1 1/2 hours from Kinblethmont), it is amazing. Culross is a perfectly preserved medieval town, rich in history. Many episodes of Outlander were filmed there! I cannot recommend it enough. There are shops, pubs, and definitely take a tour of the palace.
This cute seaside town is a half hour from Kinblethmont by car or train, and has lots to do! Broughty Castle and Barnhill Rock Garden are highly recommended.
