One word: Tinder. (Yes, you can find true love on Tinder.) Love at first swipe? Possibly. At least both the groom and the bride had found each other attractive enough to match. However, little did Jason know that the only reason Candice swiped right was because he had pictures with his ex-girlfriend as his profile pictures and Candice was just wondering why would a guy with a girlfriend be on Tinder?! Only later did she find out that Jason was a noob who didn't know how to change his profile pics on this simple app. Initially, conversations were short. Candice took forever to respond while Jason patiently waited for her to get online so he could talk to her. Before long, Jason couldn't stand it anymore and asked for her number. These two sent each other long text and voice messages, but that wasn't enough. They also skyped each other for hours at a time. Two months into texting and chatting, it was finally time to meet each other in person. Jason knew Candice was apartment hunting. He didn't waste his chance. Rather, he introduced her to t(his) neighborhood - Bridgeport. Candice unknowingly took his recommendation and decided to view some apartments in that neighborhood. One day, Candice let Jason know that she would be in his neighborhood for an apartment, hoping that they would meet up then. Sadly, Jason was on his way to school. When Candice was about to leave, Jason texted her "my class was canceled and I'm on my way back!" Wow, even fate knew they were meant for each other and created this opportunity for them to meet! Little did Candice know that she wasn't just meeting him... she was meeting all his friends. Even so, her first impression wow-ed all his friends which sealed the deal for Jason. After hanging out with friends, having so many late night talks and getting to know each other, Jason finally asked Candice to be his girlfriend on October 16, 2015 and the rest had become history.
Of course, being together for 4 to 5 years would lead to marriage talk. Both knew that it was time to legally commit to each other, but when? On January 4th, 2020, Candice flew back from Hong Kong. Prior, she had countless conversations with her friends regarding the proposal. Candice was convinced that Jason wouldn't propose until after PA school. Well, she was very wrong. Jason picked Candice up from the airport after coming back from her annual family trip. Knowing Candice would be homesick, Jason thought of a busy schedule to hold her off until preparations were complete. He took her to an Indian buffet and then to Mitsuwa for grocery shopping. Candice was so tired that she didn't think anything was out of the ordinary because all these locations were just on the way home. Finally, Candice, carrying two luggages, opened the door. Dimmed lights... candles lining the hallway... many pictures on the wall that were full of their memories from the last 5 years... Candice couldn't believe what she saw and all she could think of was "Is this really happening right now? While I am wearing a shapeless dress?!" Jason guided her to the living room where balloons blanketed the ceiling and even more candles lit up the dim room. Hanging from the decorations were balloons that read: Marry Me. After Candice nervously wanders off to look at the pictures on the wall in an attempt to stall for time, Jason took Candice's hands and corralled her into the center of the cleared out room where flower petals and red candles formed the shape of a heart. He kneeled, made an impromptu, but very romantic speech (that neither of them could remember at this point, and will be forever lost to history because his brother who was recording forgot to turn the microphone on), opened the ring box and finally asked "Will you marry me?" Candice, fighting back her awkward nervous laughter the entire time finally said yes and they went to Chinatown to eat at Chi Cafe to celebrate.
