David and Julie met through their mutual friend Jen. Jen had been on David's cabin trips before, and she worked at Skinny Raven with Julie. Julie, Jen and their friend Whitney, were staying at the Hatcher Pass Lodge with friends that weekend and David was backcountry skiing with friends that weekend and staying at the lodge. Jen saw David in the lodge and invited him to lunch with us at Vagabond Blues. David agreed to come and talked their ears off about all his adventures and pictures of their kayak trips. But something must have stuck with David because a few days later he messaged Julie on Facebook...
After several lengthy Facebook messages, Julie decided it was time to get to it and go out on a date with this guy. Julie and David met at Kaladi Brothers and talked their for 2 hours until they closed, then went to Spenard Roadhouse, where they talked the night away until 1am! Something was clearly right:)
David and Julie knew they were getting married for a while. Julie was just waiting for the ring. Despite all the anticipation, and moments when Julie thought David was going to propose when they were kayaking, fat biking, or in front of glaciers...David managed to completely surprise Julie and propose at their friends house after a game of ladder ball. He had been very sick the day before and was still quite weak. It didn't stop him from wanting to join our friends at their house for a party. David had called Julie's dad that day and asked for permission to marry her. He had also told a few friends that he was planning on proposing this night. So after the game of ladder ball (that our friends were supposed to let us win) ... David went up to Julie and said "babe, since you played sooo good...will you marry me?" They were both laughing and Julie even forgot to say yes for a while! But she did! And they celebrated with all their friends:)
