45 miles from lodge Cutest town on the North Shore - go explore it! Our recommendations: The Raven - rooftop patio for cocktails with views of Lake Superior & live music Angry Trout Cafe - this one is all about location - dining right on the water's edge Superior Creamery - amazing ice cream - if Golden Milk flavor is available just get it Sven & Ole's - we've never actually been here, but judging by the amount of people who brand their cars with bumper stickers it has to be good
11 miles from lodge We've been told early June is prime for moose sightings - especially for mamas with their babies! Consider afternoon drives down to the end of the Gunflint Trail as well as on the Old Gunflint Trail.
If you're feeling adventurous you can book a day trip into the Boundary Waters. Day use permits can be obtained at the various entry points and are free. The lodge has several for use or you can rent a canoe from any outfitter on the trail. The Gunflint Lodge is closest to us and has guided day trips available (linked). We are told that the Granite River Day Trip is one for the books! Another option to explore: https://www.gunflintwild.com/guided-paddling/
