This is our favorite nearby park for hikes. It is really well marked (it’s almost impossible to get lost), and has many trail options of various lengths. There’s also a “beach” which, for those of you coming from a coast, is what they call swim-able lake area here.
A wonderful conservatory-- which is also where we got engaged! Make sure to check out the bonsai trees in the Japanese Garden and say hi to Chloe the sloth in the tropical room. The Zoo and Conservatory are free (with an optional donation).
Saint Paul has the most River front land of any city in the United States. You can enjoy views of the mighty Mississippi from downtown Saint Paul. Rent a bike or scooter and take off down the great river bike way! While you’re downtown, visit Candyland for a treat or catch a Saint’s minor league baseball game (with a pig who retrieves the ball at times!) or snap some pictures with Saint Paul’s collection of Peanut characters statues.
Partake in a Minnesota specialty- the Juicy Lucy- a burger filled with cheese (at Burger Moe’s it’s called a Juicy Moe). Burger Moe’s is where we had our second date (September 2017) and later celebrated our first Valentines Day (February 2018) and then even later celebrated our engagement (December 2019).
If it’s your first time in Saint Paul you may wonder: “why don’t more people live in this idyllic metropolis with world class parks, delicious and affordable food from around the world, multiple beautiful domed buildings, and a robust transit system?”. It’s the 6+ month long winter that scares them off- so enjoy that hard-earned summer weather! Check out any Saint Paul Park (Mears Park in downtown, Boyd Park with a brand new destination playground in Cathedral Hill, Battle Creek on the East Side, to name a few) or find a restaurant with a patio (try Sweeney’s or the Happy Gnome), or pick up food for a picnic (we suggest Afro Deli downtown) or grab some ice cream and take a nice walk (Sota Hot and Cold for delicious rolled ice cream).
