Duke's is our favorite bar, and, oh, incidentally where we had our first date 😁 Reasonably priced and hands-down the best music DJ'ed in the city (well, best if you like the tunes we like!), Duke's also has very delicious deli-style sandwiches (or as they call them, "bodega style," which for pedantic former NYC'ers seems inapt). The sandwiches are a perfect coda to an exuberantly spent evening! 😉
To avoid multiple entries that might make us look like dipsomaniacs, herewith a list of our favorite dives and fancy drinks places in East Nashville. (Ask us for recommendations for elsewhere!) Dinos (411 Gallatin Ave): Shoebox-sized greasy-spoon with a full bar & a nice backyard. If you're feeling peckish, Bobby recommends the fries. Mickey's Tavern (2907 Gallatin Pike): Solid area-dive. If you're looking to pre-game the wedding (it's close), Saturday days are two-for-one & the jukebox is free! The Fox, Walden (2905B Gallatin Pike, 2909B Gallatin Pike): Both conveniently located to Mickey's (like same complex of buildings) & nicer establishments with fancy drinks, & "heavy apps" (The Fox) or sandwiches (Walden). Attaboy (8 Mcferrin Ave): V. fancy "speakeasy." There's no menu (drink or otherwise) & cocktails are concocted based on your preferences by attentive & inquisitive bartenders. Pricey, but delightful!
Although archly hip, Barista Parlor has some of the best coffee in Nashville, and very fine breakfast fare (biscuits, burritos, waffles, and sandwiches)
In the heart of the often congested touristy land of lower Broadway in downtown Nashville is Robert's Western World, our preferred honky-tonk. If you're keen to listen to some great old-school county, while knocking back a cold one (or noshing on something off their griddle), Robert's is the real deal & well-worth a trip!
A favorite restaurant for Camilla, the Wild Cow is a vegan, vegetarian & gluten-free friendly eatery that even dyed-in-the-wool omnivores like Bobby love getting. Check their Instagram for their delectably inventive special of the day. Next door is Wild Cow's sister restaurant, Graze, which is also vegan, vegetarian & gluten-free friendly, somewhat more up-market, and is our go-to brunch place in the city.
A recent-ish arrival to our neighborhood, Cafe Roze is a great "hip" (in the best sense of the word) spot to grab lunch or dinner or an afternoon sit-down coffee or cocktail in a lovely and nicely be-marbled atmosphere. It also has the advantage of being nice & proximate to our digs!
Mas Tacos is our favorite place in town to pick up some tasty, cheap tacos while enjoying a margarita in a relaxed, informal restaurant (located across from the much-hyped Pharmacy Burger, where there's a perpetual crocodile of folks awaiting entry). Fans of good eats (try the elote) will leave satisfied!
One our favorite restaurants, City House has great wood-fired pizzas & fancy Italian fare. Nashville is replete with excellent places to dine (to sound like a tourist brochure) & we recommend that you "treat yo self" (too 2012?) while in town. City House is located in Germantown, which has surfeit of nice places to dine (such as Rolf and Daughters). This applies to East Nashville as well; among the places we like in the neighborhood, Butcher and Bee is always a treat!
