Quintana Roo
Possibly the most sought after vacation spot in Mexico. We recommend you skip Cancún, and opt for some of the other vacation spots in the area. Such as the islands Isla Mujeres and Holbox, and towns like Playa del Carmen, Tulum and Akumal. The Riviera Maya not only offers great beaches, but is also home to ancient Mayan pyramids and amazing nature. Be sure to check out the Cenotes (ancient underground caverns filled with groundwater), or use the opportunity to explore the second largest coral reef in the world.
Oaxaca
The state of Oaxaca is a really good option if you're looking for some laid-back fun. Capital of the State of the same name, Oaxaca is one of the most colourful cities in Mexico. Go there for the food, the colours, the culture...and the mezcal. This is the homeland of the infamous Mexican drink. Possibly the coolest city in Mexico after Mexico City. In addition you'll find some amazing beach towns along the Oaxacan coast. Check out Mazunte and San Agustinillo for untouched beaches and a relaxed atmosphere, or try out Mexico's surfer paradise Puerto Escondido. If you're looking for something a bit more luxurious, Huatulco is host to some of the best value-for-money all-inclusives in Mexico.
Baja California Sur, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima
From Baja California Sur in the North, to Colima in the South, Mexico's Pacific Coast has a lot to offer. For beautiful resorts check out Los Cabos and Todos Santos (Baja California Sur), Puerto Vallarta, Nueva Vallarta and Punta Mita (Jalisco), and Manzanillo (Colima). For more relaxed options, check out the smaller beach towns Barra de Navidad (Jalisco) and Sayulita (Nayarit).
