Hungry? Thirsty? Start at San Pedro Square Market — it’s a local favorite with indoor/outdoor seating, tons of food + drink vendors, and usually some live entertainment to set the mood. Around the corner, you’ll find plenty more spots worth a stop: District (don’t miss the deviled eggs), Dr. Funk (tiki vibes, strong pours), and classics like La Vic’s or even Taco Bell Cantina for those late-night cravings. And if you’re feeling playful, swing by San Jose Social for bowling, arcade games, karaoke, and more eats + drinks.
One of our go-to bars on 1st Street — with a hidden speakeasy tucked in the back 👀. A few other favorites nearby: Paper Plane (cocktail heaven), 55 South (laid-back vibes), Fox Tale Fermentation Project (fuuuuunky beers) and Miniboss (arcade games + drinks = yes, please).
Don’t sleep on the salsas — seriously, try them all. This spot was one of our walk-to favorites when we lived nearby. Other gems close by: Hop & Vine (perfect for drinks + bites) and LUNA Mexican Kitchen (go for breakfast and order the Café de Olla — thank us later).
Into museums? Check out The Tech Interactive for hands-on fun, or if you’ve got kids in tow, the Children’s Discovery Museum is a classic. A little further down by Santana Row + Valley Fair Mall (aka shopping heaven), you’ll find the Winchester Mystery House. Beware: Sarah’s ghost might just follow you home.
We’re big fans of getting outside — and during the early COVID years, this trail was our go-to escape. Honestly, it’s still one of the best hikes in the Bay. Check out the Buena Vista Trail Loop (3.6 miles) for fresh air + killer views.
