As Catholics, we believe that the Mass is the greatest and highest prayer of the Church. What better way to start our marriage than with "the source and summit of the Christian life"? For this Mass, we have carefully chosen Scripture readings and hymns which we desire to ponder and take into our married life. Confused by the Mass? We will provide a ceremony pamphlet which will contain the Order of the Mass and Rite of Matrimony for you to follow along. If you want to learn more, there are also several resources out there which delve into the Catholic perspective on the Mass. Check out Bishop Robert Barron, Father Mike Schmitz, Ascension Press, and others on YouTube!
Catholics believe that the Eucharist is the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ Himself, and we must be properly disposed to receive such a precious gift! For this reason, only currently practicing Catholics in a state of grace may receive Holy Eucharist. If you are are not currently practicing the Catholic faith, are a member of another Christian denomination, or have not been to Confession in some time, we ask that you come forward to receive a blessing from the priest by crossing your arms. As another option, you may also remain in your pew and pray for the couple. We look forward to the day when "all will be one" in Christ (John 17:11).
The ceremony will be taking place inside a Catholic church, so please wear appropriate, semi-formal attire. As a rule of thumb, knees and shoulders should be covered. Both the ceremony and the reception will be taking place indoors in the middle of winter, so wearing layers is recommended.
Please plan to be there by 2:45pm at the latest. Mass will begin at 3:00pm.
To honor the sacredness of the wedding ceremony, we ask that everyone remains "unplugged" during the Mass: phones and cameras off or on silent. We will have a photographer to capture each moment of the ceremony. When it comes to the reception, though, you're more than welcome to take as many photos and videos as you like!
