Punta Sur
Punta Sur is the most southern tip of the island, it is also the very first part of Mexico that the sun touches when it rises each day. This is a gorgeous spot to check out- bring a camera & a few dollars/pesos to enter the park. Bring bananas too if you want to feed the iguanas!
Turtle Farm
Tortugranja (turtle farm) is a government-sponsored hatchery for endangered sea turtles. The turtles come to Isla Mujeres beaches in the summer late at night and into the early hours of the morning to lay their eggs. A sea turtle is capable of laying more than 100 eggs at a time. The entrance fee is $3 USD and offers the ability to see how man protects nature, you can also feed the turtles
Playa Norte (North Beach)
Voted one of the Top Ten Beaches In The World- you cannot come to Isla and NOT spend a day on Playa Norte. The sand is powder fine, and the waters are crystal clear and calm. You can rent a bed from one of the many beach clubs, or throw down a towel and relax under a palm tree for free. Either way- this is the best spot to spend your days.
Isla Brewing Company
Handcrafted on an Island in the Caribbean. Isla Brewing Company is the First MicroBrewery on Isla Mujeres, offering European style ales with a Caribbean Flavor. Be sure to stop here and try some free samples, & grab a 6 pack to-go!
Soggy Peso
Sweet little Florida-keys style bar that makes seriously potent Margaritas!!! This is one of those spots that you just have to visit if you come to Isla. No one under 18 is allowed in.
Isla Animals
When Alison moved to Mexico in 2001, there was no animal rescue on Isla Mujeres. The street dog population was out of control & there were packs of wild dogs on the beaches. With no veterinarian services available on the island, there were puppies EVERYWHERE. Alison decided that she could make a difference. She started by taking puppies into her home, but at that time did not considered herself as a rescue. She and her husband Jeff built kennels out of anything they could find…old doors, windows, blocks, etc.. As word spread, people started to tie unwanted dogs to Alison & Jeff’s front door. At this point, they were unavoidably considered a rescue. Keeping on top of the growing numbers of animals was a monumental task. In 2015, the government recognized the value of Alison’s work and offered her a space to continue her rescue efforts. Since then, Isla Animals has grown with more volunteers and donations. Stop by to walk & play with the puppies!
Hidalgo Street
Hidalgo is the pedestrian only street in the middle of Centro (downtown). This street is packed with local shops, restaurants, bars and cafes. This is the perfect spot to grab dinner, coffee, an ice cold beer- or a souvenir to take home!
The Coffee Break
The BEST coffee, tea and smoothie drinks are made here at The Coffee Break. Try an iced, cold brew coffee or iced latte- they even serve it with coffee ice cubes!
