We are cancelling our big celebration on June 13th. We still plan to get married on June 13th, but we'll only celebrate with our immediate families. We want to keep all of the people we care about safe! We will miss you all! We're so sad that you all won't be able to join us, but we hope to hold another celebration where all of you can join when we can.
We met while both attending a golden retriever grieving group in Durham. Just kidding, we met through a mutual friend (Calvin's best man Sean) who suggested that we should be friends. Over coffee at Cocoa Cinnamon, Calvin decided that we were kindred spirits and Shirley decided that we should date. Turns out that we were both right. A summer of not dates but sort-of dates followed, and we went on our first official date in September 2018.
It was the Tuesday after exams and papers, before holiday revelry. Shirley had a doctor's appointment, so naturally Calvin found himself sitting by himself in the hospital waiting room muttering Mandarin to himself. A few hours later at their favorite flower shop, Pine State Flowers, Shirley "stumbled" upon a photo book: For Shirley, From Calvin. Inside was the story of their relationship: "There was a girl named Shirley and a boy named Calvin..." Calvin proposed in Mandarin that was, if not flawless, certainly decipherable, and Shirley said yes.
