Calvin and Hugo met on Tinder. Both tired of the talking and dating cycle going nowhere, they decided to give it one more try: Calvin made sure to make it known it'd be a date. Hugo was on a liquid diet at the time, so they went out for drinks, but the brewery was closed- so they relocated to Big Al's, starting their drink dating phase.

During this time, Calvin and Hugo basically left their jobs, so they saw each other almost everyday after the first couple weeks. As they were starting to like each other, Calvin wanted to play it safe and take it slow, but this led to Hugo thinking he was friendzoned. Hugo also almost dropped him because they found out they dated the same guy and Hugo thought they were in cahoots! Hugo also didn't consider them to be dating since it wasn't official, prompting Calvin to ask him out officially- but he chickened out after their dinner and had to try again the next day.

Calvin knew for quite sometime he wanted to propose to Hugo. He planned it for months and for it to take place during a weekend getaway in Temecula with their closest friends. Obviously, this was a secret from Hugo, which was hard to keep since Calvin kept getting drunk and telling people.
