New Entry Requirement for U.S. Travelers

Starting in 2026, U.S. citizens will need to complete an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) application before entering Italy or any EU Schengen country. It’s not a traditional visa, but a quick online authorization: Cost: ~€7 (free for travelers under 18 or over 70) Valid for 3 years or until your passport expires Can be used for multiple trips Apply online at the official site: https://travel-europe.europa.eu/etias Be sure to check closer to your departure date for updates or changes to this requirement!

Flight

Rome Airport - F C O

Rome (FCO) is about a 3 hour train ride or 2 hour drive from Perugia, the main town outside of our venue. Other airports to check out : - Milan (MXP)- much further from the venue area (4-5 hour train ride) but a major hub with more reasonable prices than smaller airports like Pisa or Florence! - Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi Airport (PEG): very tiny airport right in Perugia but would only recommend if you are traveling in Europe prior to the wedding events. Major airports like Rome (FCO) and Milan (MXP) have rental car centers and train stations conveniently located onsite. If you plan to take the train, be sure to allow plenty of time between your flight arrival and your train departure — you’ll need time to go through customs, collect your luggage, and reach the train platform comfortably! Helpful timeline on when to start looking and booking flights: May–August 2025: Start browsing flights and set up price alerts (Google Flights, Hopper, etc.) June–July 2025: Most airlines will open May 2026 flights for booking — time to start watching closely! August–November 2025: Ideal window to book your flights for the best deals and availability December 2025 and beyond: Prices may rise as the trip gets closer — book early if you haven't yet!

Train

Perugia Centrale

Perugia is the main town near our venue and has it's own train station, most easily accessible from major cities such as Rome and Florence. Trenitalia is the most popular train travel site. Tips: 1. Book High Speed Trains in advance- they sell out quickly or increase in price as the date gets closer. 2. For regional trains (marked "Regionale" or "Regionale Veloce"), you must validate your ticket before boarding if you buy it at a station kiosk or from a machine. Look for small green and white machines on the platform — insert your paper ticket to time-stamp it. If you don't validate your regional train ticket, you can be fined on the spot — even if the ticket is valid! (E-tickets for regional trains typically do not need validation, but double-check your email or ticket info to be sure.) 3. Transfers will be common if coming from major hubs like Rome. When booking, allow at least 15–20 minutes between trains to find your platform and board — Italian trains are punctual! Italian platforms are marked "Binario." Your train's platform may not appear on the board until 10–15 minutes before departure, so keep an eye on the departures screen (Partenze) and your train number. 4. There are no checked bags — you carry on all luggage. On high-speed trains, there’s overhead space, plus room at the ends of the cars for larger bags. On regional trains, you may have to keep your bag at your seat. Keep an eye on them regardless!

Rental Car

Hertz Autonoleggio - Rome Fiumicino Airport

Via dell'Aeroporto di Fiumicino, Fiumicino, Lazio 00054, Italy

Rental Car

Hertz Autonoleggio - Perugia Railway Station - Piazzale Vittorio Veneto 4

4 Piazza Vittorio Veneto, Perugia, Umbria 06124, Italy

Rental cars are recommended for flexibility and convenience as the venue is not in a major city where taxis and ubers will be easily or quickly accessible. Tips: 1. If renting a car, book well in advance! 2. U.S. driver’s licenses are valid, but you also need an International Driving Permit (IDP) – it’s easy to get from AAA in the U.S. (same-day service). 3. Most cars are manual – be sure to request an automatic when booking if needed but there usually is an upcharge for automatics 4. Roads in Umbria are scenic and generally easy to navigate, but can be narrow and winding in rural areas 5. You drive on the right side of the road (just like in the U.S.) 6. Gas stations are less frequent in rural areas – fill up when you can! 7. Other popular rental services: Europcar Avis Sixt Enterprise 8. You may want to also check to see if your credit card has any insurance benefits such as serving as your primary insurance coverage, before booking as rental companies will charge for insurance protection coverage.

Travel Note

Other Travel Tips

1. Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months after your travel date 2. Consider booking travel insurance 3. Pack comfy shoes—Italy’s cobblestones are no joke! 4. Don’t forget adapters for European outlets (Type C or F) 5. We would highly recommend renting a car as taxis and Ubers are unreliable in our experience, in this area. You’ll need an international drivers license but those are easy to acquire through any AAA! In this region, we found it easy to navigate and drive. 5. We recommend looking into your credit card companies benefits/perks for travel if you have one. Some cards don’t have foreign transaction fees while others do. We can’t wait to celebrate with you in Italy! 🇮🇹
