Harpers Ferry is a national park with a rich history and lots of fun things to do! We recommend walking around the town and shops, taking in the river views. The best way to get down to the park where many points of interest below are located is to park at the Visitors Center and take the free shuttle.
Visit where the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers meet! From this location, you look upon three states - Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia - as well as the confluence of the two rivers. We invite you to gaze upon the magnificent sight of this water gap in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
If you are able, we recommend hiking to the top of the hill at Harpers Ferry, past the church, to see Jefferson Rock. The location offers gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains, the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers, and the water gap. It received this name because Thomas Jefferson once stood there and exclaimed that the view alone was worth the trip across the Atlantic.
A visit to John Brown's Fort is more than seeing where the historic event took place. The building has a complex history that begins in 1848, continues through to today, and includes four locations in Harpers Ferry and one in Chicago. It is worth seeing!
This landmark was once an operating church but is now maintained as a historic chapel as a part of the national park. The church is located on the way up the mountain towards Jefferson Rock and overlooks the town of Harpers Ferry below. It is a beautiful sight to see if you attend when it is open to the public.
