How We Met

Love at first sight (kind of)

Azalea's POV: As a homeschooler, there were a lot of things I expected going into public school for my senior year of high school. Things like, having to wake up before 10, actually having to turn my homework on time, and meeting people who have DRASTICALLY different worldviews than I did. The one thing I did not expect was to meet Caleb Bradshaw. I met Caleb at the start of my senior year of high school at a little school bonding event. I had only been there about a month at that point and the public school system still intimidated me. As far as I knew I was the only Christian there and it was definitely a daunting thought. But one day I walk into this random classroom for a random school bonding thing and lo and behold, there was this guy wearing a "Let us Worship" hoodie, and suddenly public school wasn't that scary anymore. During that bonding class, I learned that this guy wasn't ashamed of his faith, played cajon for his high school worship team, and had a wonderful head of hair. Needless to say, I was HOOKED. I'm proud to say that not only did I learn this guy's name (massive W), but in a few months I get to share it too ;) Caleb POV: Senior year was an absolute blur to me. I was really only taking two classes a day and leaving early afterwards with my best friend Conner. It was fun, don't get me wrong, but it definitely didn’t feel like I made the most of it. However, somewhere along the line a teacher thought I’d be a good fit for helping with the group who was designing and printing T-shirts for our school event. I went along with the suggestion, not really knowing anything about it, but I’m glad I did. I don’t actually remember meeting Azalea during that class to be honest, but I do now remember that she was the one who would open the doors for me to take out heavy boxes of T-shirts to the classroom. It wasn’t until our gym class later that year that I got to discover how bright and charming this girl really was. I immediately took a liking to her character and demeanor, only to find out shortly after that she went to the same church as my grandma and ALSO played worship music just like me. This is where I too was hooked. We finished out our senior year having little interactions that I looked forward to, maybe a little too much, but after graduation I figured we’d both be going our separate ways and I never made my move. Skipping forward to the following fall, I was still in the area and so was she. I recalled that she was going to Calvary Chapel and “conveniently” started attending more and more myself. Soon enough I was invited to her birthday and it only got better from there. Suddenly we were hanging out late after youth group, eating McDonalds on top of our cars, and eventually fessing up to the feelings we had for each other almost a year prior. I’m not sure if I can call her my high school sweetheart, but I do know that I can call her my best friend, and soon enough… my wife!
