The History Behind The Swanner House:
In 1913, Roger Williams & his brother William bought 347 acres in San Juan Capistrano to grow walnuts and create family farms, with help from their brother Guy. In 1923, Roger and Lizzie Swanner Williams built a two-story Craftsman home on a 35-acre portion, landscaping it with walnut and fruit trees. During the 1920s, Roger and Guy shifted to orange farming, gaining recognition for their citrus success and helping to launch Capistrano’s citrus industry. The home remained with Swanner descendants until 1991, when the city purchased it for preservation. It is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
