Caitlyn and Charlie’s story began, fittingly, at church, although the story picks up at different points in time. For Caitlyn, the first time she set her sights upon Charlie, was in her first year of university during the Minute to Mingle at church, when Zeeko casually mentioned that Charlie had once met his girlfriend there. Naturally, Caitlyn had to acknowledge that the Lord has graced him with unmatched looks. For Charlie, things shifted when Caitlyn invited him to a padel game. According to Charlie (and without being cliché) everything went silent around him, and personal space briefly ceased to exist since Caitlyn had no regard for his. Although curios, he decided to shrug off the feeling as random. Round about this time the 'Kerk Pelle' group was birthed and the banter commenced. What was meant to be a group hike in Jan 2024 ended up being just the two of them (dankie, Robynne). It was, by all accounts, the most platonic hike imaginable, but not long after, Caitlyn noticed Charlie had started walking her to her car after church, and their WhatsApp chats became more frequent. Ice cream and coffee outings followed… then one tennis game which Charlie mistakenly claimed to have been a date. According to Caitlyn it was just to 'drop the handkerchief'. After about a month of recovering from the damaged ego, in March 2024, Charlie made his intentions unmistakably clear by asking her on their official first date via a modern-day pigeon letter tailored for an accountant (see the gallery page). By the end of April, the creative courting continued and with an impressive Canva presentation, Charlie asked Caitlyn to be his girlfriend. Fast forward the next year and a bit (because our quirkiness cannot be explained, merely observed) to 5 September 2025. Here, at Theewaterskloof dam, Charlie asked Caitlyn for her hand in marriage and for a lifetime of loving Jesus and each other. Right next to the waters where he was baptised.
