Travel Note

Access to United States Naval Academy

Only active duty and retired military personnel are authorized to drive onto USNA (colloquially referred to as "the Yard"). There are two entrances for vehicle traffic onto the Yard: Gate 1 and Gate 8 (please see the map chip). Gate 1 is open for vehicle traffic from 6am-6pm daily, while Gate 8 is open 24/7. Parking is very limited on the Yard so you should allow extra time if you are planning on driving onto the Yard for the ceremony. Visitors (both military and civilian) may walk onto the Yard through the Visitor Center located at Gate 1. Expect to show your ID and be subjected to a search process. Gate 1 is open for pedestrian access from 8am-5pm daily. Visitors are able to walk OUT of the Gate 1 or Gate 3 turnstiles to depart the Yard after 5pm but will not be able to get back onto the Yard after exiting. Anyone 18 years of age or older must present a valid, unexpired original REAL ID Act compliant U.S. government photo ID card (e.g. state issued driver’s license or identification card); or an original, unexpired passport to enter USNA grounds. Visitors from states and territories that are not REAL ID Act compliant must present additional acceptable identification such as a SSN card, unexpired passport (book or card), birth certificate, or voter registration card.

Travel to/from the Ceremony

There will be three shuttles available for guests' transportation onto the Yard and to the Anson residence for the reception. One shuttle will depart the Doubletree Hotel in Annapolis promptly at 2:45pm. This shuttle will be for those residing at the Doubletree Hotel for the weekend. After the ceremony that shuttle will take those guests from the Yard to the Anson residence. At 10:30pm after the reception the shuttle will take you back to the Doubletree. A second shuttle will pick up guests from the Anson residence at 2:30pm. This shuttle is for those who live locally and are not residing at the Doubletree. Upon arriving at the Anson residence you will be directed to a parking spot. The shuttle will take you from the Anson's to the Yard for the ceremony and return for the reception. A third shuttle will pick up guests from the Anson residence at 2:15pm and then depart for the Doubletree to pick up any remaining guests there. This shuttle is estimated to arrive at the Doubletree at 3:15pm and then will drop off guests at USNA. Several guests have opted to drive themselves to the ceremony and then reception. If those guests do not possess a valid active or retired military ID they are required to drive through Gate 1. Parking on the Yard is limited so please allow extra time for travel. We recommend parking near Dahlgren Hall. Please reach out to Caitlin or Sam with any questions. Parking will be available at the Anson residence during the reception. You may leave your car at the house overnight if you overindulge.
