Question

What is the Chautauqua Institution?

Answer

Summer camp for adults. An adorable lakeside town. A place for thinkers, dreamers, and doers. You should come to our wedding and find out. https://www.chq.org/

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

We recommend staying within the Chautauqua Institution grounds. See our Travel page for links to the Athenaeum Hotel, which will have a special rate for our guests, as well as private inns and houses for rent on the grounds. If you do stay off-grounds, there will be transportation available to/from the main gate parking lot on the day of the ceremony.

Question

Can I bring my kids?

Answer

Children are welcome at the Friday dinner and Sunday brunch but not the wedding ceremony or reception. Please contact the Athenaeum (see our Travel page) for assistance with childcare.

Question

What should I wear to the wedding?

Answer

Semi-formal Attire: suits, gowns, and cocktail dresses. We'll be outside in the summer - have fun!

Question

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

Answer

The ceremony will take place in an open-air pavilion. The reception will be in a tent on a lawn with a dance floor.

Question

How far will I need to walk?

Answer

There will be a short (half-mile) walk to the reception at Belltower Park immediately following the ceremony at the Hall of Philosophy, with the Athenaeum Hotel located right in-between. Transportation will be available from the ceremony to the reception for everyone who needs or prefers.

Question

What is the weather like in Chautauqua in June?

Answer

Typically sunny, with highs in the 70s and lows in the 60s. Bring bathing suits, sandals, and sunscreen for daytime and maybe a light layer for the evening. And even though it's New York in the summer, the friendly local swallows and bats are kind enough to keep the bugs at bay!

Question

What is there to do in Chautauqua?

Answer

There are tons of things to do within the Chautauqua Institution and the surrounding area. Check out our Things to Do page for ideas!
