Things To Do, People to See, Food To Eat

Ellis Hospital

1101 Nott Street, Schenectady, NY 12308

Full disclosure, we don’t actually want to see you here! But hey, we’re nurses, so just to be safe, if you do need medical attention, we know a few good people who can help. Plus, it’s just around the corner from the hotel block, so if nothing else, you can swing by to check out the fifth floor... where our love story all began.

Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady

1 Rush Street, Schenectady, NY 12305

We’re not big on gambling ourselves... but when the casino is just minutes from the hotel block, we wouldn’t be surprised if a few of you end up spending some time there! Whether you’re feeling lucky or just looking for some evening entertainment, it’s a fun spot to check out.

The Shaker & Vine

221 Harborside Drive, Schenectady, NY 12305

We’d be doing you a disservice if we didn’t recommend one of our favorite hangout spots for drinks and snacks. The Shaker & Vine is just a short walk from the casino and absolutely worth a visit. With its cozy atmosphere and great menu, it’s the perfect place to unwind and catch up.

Jade Bistro

120 Mohawk Avenue, Scotia, NY 12302

If you’re a sushi lover, don’t miss Jade Bistro, it’s one of our favorite spots! The sushi is always fresh and delicious, but even if sushi isn’t your thing, they offer a full menu with a variety of Asian-inspired dishes. This was actually a go-to spot for many of our after-work dates when we first started dating, making it extra special to us. It’s a cozy place to enjoy a tasty meal and some great memories.

Don Tequila Mexican Cantina

219 Wolf Road, Albany, NY 12205

It wouldn’t be a proper list of food recommendations without mentioning our favorite Mexican spot. Don Tequila’s is a newer restaurant, but the food is fantastic, and we can’t get enough of their house-made hot sauce. If you’re craving bold flavors and a lively atmosphere, this place is definitely worth a visit!

TORO Cantina

111 Wolf Road, Albany, NY 12205

Okay, so maybe we needed two Mexican spots on this list... Toro is your more upscale option, offering an elevated dining experience complete with the best hibiscus margarita and a delicious salsa sampler. If you’re looking to treat yourself to some refined flavors and a stylish atmosphere, Toro won’t disappoint.

Howe Caverns

255 Discovery Drive, Howes Cave, NY 12092

If you're looking for something unique to do before the ceremony, and you've never ventured 156 feet underground then a visit to the caverns in Schoharie is a must! Located on the other side of town from the venue, it's a fun little adventure that offers a mix of natural beauty, local history, and a cool break from the ordinary.

Chianti Il Ristorante

18 Division Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866

Our very first date was at Chianti, and ever since, we’ve returned every year to order what our waiter once called “the best calamari ever.” After our trip to Italy this past summer, this place has taken on even more meaning, reminding us of the charming restaurants we experienced there.

Lake George

Lake George, NY 12845

If you're looking for a quick and easy day trip that still offers incredible fall foliage, make your way to Lake George. It's a perfect spot for leaf peeping, especially if you take the scenic drive up Veteran’s Memorial Highway. The panoramic views from the top are truly breathtaking, with vibrant autumn colors stretching as far as the eye can see. It’s a relaxing and rewarding getaway, even if you only have a few hours to spare.

The Log Jam Restaurant

1484 U.S. 9, Lake George, NY 12845

Caitlin’s favorite date was a day trip to Lake George, capped off with dinner at The Log Jam. After spending the day enjoying the beautiful fall colors and leaf peeping, the cozy vibes and delicious food at The Log Jam made it the perfect way to relax and unwind before heading home.

Lake Placid

Lake Placid, NY 12946

If you're in town a few days before or after the big day, we highly recommend visiting one of our all-time favorite fall destinations. It's even where we'll be spending our mini-moon! Every autumn, we return to this spot to soak in the crisp air, cozy vibes, and stunning scenery. We'll be right in the heart of peak leaf season, so for those visiting from out of town, this is your chance to experience the vibrant colors of fall at their very best. Don't miss it!
