The Midland Railroad Tunnels are a series of tunnels used by the Colorado Midland railway from the 1880s until its closure in the early part of the twentieth century. The tunnels ran between Colorado Springs, Leadville, and Aspen, carrying shipments of silver, iron ore, and supplies to Colorado pioneers. There is something magical about riding a bike through these tunnels.
Cute local bar with a historical location and nice small plates.
Modern Spirits with a Sense of History—the place Cactus & Lizzie stopped to enjoy a toast with a craft cocktail on the day they eloped. From their 100-year-old building in Historic Downtown Salida to our original 1880’s German Pot Still “Ashley” (one of the world’s oldest stills currently in use) history is everywhere at Wood’s. Their spirits, however, are definitely modern. With unique blends of malted grains including malted rye and specialty barley malts, contemporary gin recipes and high-altitude maturation they’re definitely doing things differently. This gem is part owned by a friend, PT Woods, who was once Chaffee County Mayor and County Commissioner.
