Wedding Party

We're so thankful to have so many great friends and family! We've opted to keep our bridal party small, but would like to honor those that have been with us through thick and thin and are so close, we consider them like family. Here's where you can meet our people!

Alex Cauley

Maid of Honor

Emily grew up the center of Lisa and Jim's attention for six years but begged for a little brother. God had different plans: enter Mary Alex. Now she cannot imagine life without her little sister and has loved her from day 1. Through ups and downs, Alex has been there and loved her unconditionally. Emily feels blessed to have such a great relationship with her sister and considers her one of her best friends! It was an obvious pick for who would be Emily’s Maid of Honor. Emily can’t wait to share this special day with Alex!

Paul Schulken

Best Man

Byron has known Paul since he was born. As the years went on, Byron and Paul’s interests became increasingly different, but their brotherly bond remained unshaken. It took Byron no time to determine who his best man would be. Both remained in Raleigh after college and the two meet every week at Ruckus to catch-up over pizza and beer.

Mallory Lane

Bridesmaid

If you ever get confused when Emily mentions her "sisters" she is including her cousin Mallory, who may as well be a sister. Even though Mallory is six years younger she could very well be Emily's twin as they are very similar! Emily knows she is so lucky to have such a close relationship with her cousin to the point she considers her a sister and best friend. Emily couldn't imagine a life without Mallory and can’t wait to share the big day with her!

Will Sloggy

Groomsman

Will and Byron go way back like car seats. Meeting in Boy Scouts, Will is Byron’s oldest friend by a wide margin. The two have been on adventures from the lakes of Manitoba to the beaches of Georgia. One of Byron’s favorite memories with Will is spray painting a truck on the side of a street in Savannah and running out of paint midway through. If you bump into Will, be sure and ask about the Bear Island trip, he will love to tell you.

Sloan Smith

Honor Attendant

Emily and Sloan met when they were placed in the same section their first year in law school at Campbell. They bonded quickly over their love of dogs, the stress of law school and growing up in eastern NC. Over the years they have grown even closer even though Sloan is now in a different time zone. They are even training for a half-marathon together! Emily couldn't imagine celebrating without Sloan!

Riley Cauley

Dog of Honor

Riley is a Miniature Australian Shepherd angel-baby, also known as "Mr. P" (and a plethora of other nicknames given by his soon to be "dad"). He is very skittish around new people, especially men, but Emily knew there was something special about Byron when Riley let him rub his belly on their second meeting. Now Byron loves Riley almost as much as Emily does! Good boy.

Lauren Travers

Honor Attendant

Lauren and Emily met during their first year of law school when they were placed in the same Section. They bonded quickly over several similarities and even more so when Lauren got Theo and Riley also gained a best dog friend for life. They have been on several road trips together over the years. Lauren is Emily's go-to travel buddy but more importantly also a good listener and always one to give sound advice. Emily couldn't imagine celebrating without Lauren!

Justin Crowell

Honor Attendant

When Byron met Justin when they were studying (and partying) at NC State, he thought, "Wow, that guy looks a lot like Penn Gillette”. Justin has always impressed Byron with his understanding of the ins and outs of a wide variety of subjects; from computers and cars to chemical compounds. Over ten years later, they attend multiple metal concerts together as well as any camping trips they can. Justin is also part of the legendary ‘PR Night’ crowd and can undoubtedly hang with the best of them.

Lauren Thomas

Honor Attendant

Emily met Lauren when Byron brought her along to “PR night”. Being the only girls in the crew, they bonded quickly over all the “girl things” the boys didn’t much care about. Lauren was one of the only friends Emily saw while hibernating studying for the bar in February and that is when their friendship really grew. Lauren is Emily’s go-to for all things about skin-care and anything French. She also shares Emily’s love of visiting cemeteries, crime podcasts, and art.

Alex Hughes

Honor Attendant

Alex and Byron met through a mutual friend, but after getting to know Alex’s passions for motors and arguing, and his unique brand of humor, it was clear the two would be close friends. Alex is in the legendary ‘PR Night’ crowd and the pair regularly meet to turn wrenches, discuss ideas, fire up the grill, and of course vent about work. Alex’s impressive abilities with cars and conversations make him a blast to hang out with and Byron is excited for him to be part of the big day.

Laura Richardson

Honor Attendant

Laura and Emily have been through everything together. They were in school together from kindergarten to eighth grade and reunited at NC State as freshman. They fulfilled a middle school dream of sleepovers every night when they became roommates in college until Laura met the love of her life and moved in with her now-husband Alex. Alex also deserves a lot of credit for letting Emily be a third wheel for many years and being an overall great friend to Emily as well. Emily and Laura always laugh and have a great time together. Emily couldn’t imagine celebrating without Laura!!

Carson Rhodes

Honor Attendant

As Seth McFarlane once wrote, “guy friends - a computer made us roommates in college.” However, Carson and Byron’s friendship has endured long after college. They both enjoy the mountains, beer and drinking beer in the mountains together. Byron is thrilled you celebrate this day with Carson.

Leigh Edwards

Honor Attendant

Leigh and Emily have known each other practically since birth. Emily came to live with Lisa and Jim exactly one month after her neighbor Leigh was born. Leigh and Emily were neighbors their whole lives (even through a move!) and went on to be neighbors at NC State and then roommates. Although they aren’t close in proximity any more, Leigh will always be Emily’s first and oldest friend. Emily couldn’t imagine not sharing this special day with Leigh!

Caroline Monson

Honor Attendant

Emily doesn’t remember actually meeting Caroline – in a way they’ve always been friends. Emily was first friends with Caroline’s brother Adam, but Caroline and Emily danced together for several years and grew closer as they got older (actually, the Sorensons may as well be an extension of the Cauley family). Although Caroline is two years younger and lives over halfway across the country, Emily always knows she can count on Caroline for anything (especially excellent fashion advice!) even if they only get to actually see each other about once a year. This special day wouldn't be complete without Caroline!

Allison Coates

Honor Attendant

Alli and Emily met in kindergarten as extremely shy children, but they became fast friends. If you saw them together, you’d never think they were shy at all. Once they figured out reading and writing, they passed notes frequently and had to be separated in class more than once (sorry Mom) until Alli switched schools in third grade. Distance would not tear these two apart. They saw each other as much as they could and kept up their “secret” notes once email arrived. They suffered through years of soccer camps and training in NC heat and enjoyed many sunny days at the beach together. Alli and her family have always held a very special place in the all of the Cauley hearts and Emily likes to credit that to her and Alli’s special friendship. The day wouldn’t be complete without Alli!

Lauren Galloway

Honor Attendant

Lauren is technically an only child but ask her and she will agree that her relationship with the Cauley family would exempt her from that status. Lauren is the kindest person Emily knows and will never forget when her mom had to put Lauren in her first and only timeout for misbehaving (one of many for Emily and Alex). But her favorite memories with Lauren are at the beach where they were both lucky to have summer externships. They spent almost every weekend on “Party Island”, where ultimately Lauren got engaged and Emily got her ring! Lauren and her parents have been lifelong neighbors and friends. Although now a few hours apart, they are still extremely close and plan on spending many more Wolfpack games and beach weekends together! The day wouldn’t be complete without Lauren!

Marisa Ray

Honor Attendant

Marisa and Emily met at “Make A Date With State”. Actually, their moms met and discovered they were so similar, they had to meet. Fast forward through a couple texts and both deciding to go to NC State, they decided to be suite-mates and been friends ever since! You can find Marisa and Emily out to eat with a few other close girl friends talking about life, love and reminiscing about all the good times they've shared or at pretty much any NC State sporting event doing the same things while cheering on the Wolfpack. Emily couldn’t imagine this day without Marisa!

Sarah Stump

Honor Attendant

Although friends for several years, Emily and Sarah’s friendship flourished when they worked together while home from college and discovered they had even more things in common than they thought and countless shared life experiences. Sarah is a lifelong UNC fan, but Emily hasn’t held that against her and still invites Sarah to attend NC State basketball games which they both enjoy. The two are also workout partners and attempt weekly lunches somewhere downtown where they both work. No matter what they are doing, they always have a great time! Emily could not imagine this special event without Sarah!
