Explore Lauren's alma mater, The University of Virginia! Expect crowds over Homecoming Weekend, but The Rotunda and the Lawn, designed by Thomas Jefferson, are worth a visit!
Visit Thomas Jefferson's home and historic estate just 10 minutes south of central Charlottesville. Reservations are required, but there are many ticket options depending on your interest, including a self-guided tour of the Gardens and Grounds, a self-guided or guided House tour, a guided tour focusing on slavery at the estate, or even virtual tours if you can't make the trip!
Along the vein of historic homes, you can visit the home of James Monroe at James Monroe's Highland. You have multiple options to visit this site: you can purchase a General Admission ticket, book a private tour, or explore the Rustic Highland Trails free of charge.
One of the most popular hikes in the Charlottesville area, Humpback Rocks offers great views of the Rockfish and Shenandoah Valleys. Park at the Humpback Gap parking area and enjoy this 1.8 mile out-and-back hike climbing nearly 800 ft!
Andrew and Lauren always make sure to stop by the Downtown Mall on any Charlottesville trip! With over 120 shops and 30 restaurants, there's something for everyone. Some of our favorites include: Marco and Luca Noodle Shop, Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar, Tilman's, and Chaps Ice Cream. There's also a fantastic Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings from 8AM-1PM (located at 100 Water St, just next door to the Mall). Park on the street, in the garage (first hour's free), or take the free trolley that runs from UVA to the Downtown Mall!
Join in on the quintessential Fall activity in Charlottesville - picking apples at Carter Mountain. Be prepared for crowds, and don't forget to grab the most amazing apple cider donuts. For a slightly less crowded experience, try out Chiles Peach Orchard in Crozet - owned by the same family!
