Jacob and Mattie met October 1st 2021 through mutual friends. They both were last minute add ons to a birthday party bus. Mattie went with her friend Faith after being invited from the girlfriend of the birthday boy and Jacob was invited by his coworker aka the birthday boy. Both of them were hesitant to go but decided "why not?" When Mattie got on the bus she immediately spied Jacob and told her friend Faith, "that's the man I'm gonna dance with tonight." Eventually Mattie got enough courage to start dancing his way and eventually introduced herself after dancing for a while. Jacob vividly remembers this moment as the bus hit a bump and they both fell, Mattie onto his lap as Jacob caught her and she introduced herself with: "Hi, I'm Mattie!" The rest of the evening was spent dancing together with endless laughs. The days following, Jacob spent most days after working at the golf course with Mattie playing the ukulele or his guitar for her, listening to music, or hanging out with Mattie and her roommates. They quickly became best friends and each other's comfort. Although neither of them would admit it, they loved each other. Mattie remembers a very specific conversation with her roommate Megan where Megan asked Mattie why they don't just date already to which Mattie replied with: "if I date this man I'm going to marry him and I don't know if I'm ready for that yet." As the days passed, they only became closer friends sharing stories of their past and what they each thought that their futures held. Their "motto" was "you and me" and that to this day still stands true to their love and friendship. Jacob was the first one to say "I love you" in a sense, but rather said "I love you as a person." Jacob and Mattie had their ups and downs and three very big ones they can remember going through before they began dating. After the third time of Mattie "crawling" back to Jacob after "ending things" she finally thought to herself, God has brought me back three times maybe it's time to finally give their relationship a fair chance. After talking for 9 months Jacob came to the lake with Mattie to meet her family on the 4th of July in 2022. That evening under the fireworks Jacob asked Mattie to be his girlfriend and the rest of their love story tells itself. Throughout their relationship, Jacobs family quickly became Mattie's through Sunday night dinners, Elliott family music trivia, and husker football games. And Mattie's family quickly became Jacobs through trips to the lake, chaotic family holidays, to Mattie's dad always finding something for the both of them to do out at the farm. Jacob and Mattie spend most of their time still listening to music, Jacob playing for Mattie, watching movies, and going to concerts. One of their highlight trips was to the Red Rocks to watch ADTR and Jacob's favorite band The Story So Far and then following them to Omaha two days later to watch it all again. After talking for 9 months and dating for two and half years Jacob asked Mattie's dad for her hand in December on Darrick and Holly's anniversary. Mattie had a feeling that it would be happening soon after a few intentional and a few unintentional hints Jacob left her. They had planned a trip to Omaha for Jacob's birthday in March. A few days before the proposal, Mattie talked to her dad who surprisingly threw Mattie completely off the scent. After having to come up with a plan B due to weather, Jacob took Mattie to a beautiful greenhouse to "use a coupon" and instead Jacob asked Mattie "finally" to marry him.
