Things To Do

San Diego is our favorite place and we hope you can make the most of your time in town. We put together a list of San Diego staples, plus favorites of the Kimball and Bartlett families, and of course the bride and groom.

Embarcadero

San Diego, CA

Walk along the waterfront downtown for shopping, sites, and restaurants.

Gaslamp Quarter

San Diego, CA 92101

Just inland in downtown, this is the go-to spot for bars and nightlife. There are great food tours in this area.

La Jolla

San Diego, CA

See the seals at Seal Rock and Children’s Pool; snorkel, surf, or kayak in La Jolla Cove; or head to downtown La Jolla for upscale shopping and restaurants.

Coronado Island

Coronado, CA 92118

Rent bikes and ride around, hit the beach at Hotel Del, and check out some of the great restaurants. Bottomless mimosas? Yes please. Hit up Moo Time Creamery for dessert.

Dog Beach

San Diego, CA 92109

In Ocean Beach, it’s the happiest place on earth according to Teresa.

Kate Sessions Park

5115 Soledad Road, San Diego, CA 92109

In Pacific Beach, locals only park with an incredible view of the water.

Whale Watching

1380 Harbor Island Drive, San Diego, CA 92101

It’s migration season - check Groupon for deals as there are many great tour companies.

Jetpack America - San Diego

1010 Santa Clara Place, San Diego, CA 92109

Fly through the air with a jetpack on your back or under your feet!

Potato Chip Rock

Ramona, CA 92065
, (858) 668-4772

Challenging hike, allow 6 hours. For tips on the best routes, ask Jay or Taylor.

Cowles Mountain

San Diego, CA 92119

Highest point in the city of San Diego and a favorite of Bryan's, where he waves to Grandma Kimball from the top.

Torrey Pines State Reserve

12600 North Torrey Pines Road, La Jolla, CA 92037
, (858) 755-2063

A favorite of both families. Hike up the hill (mildly strenuous) and back down to the beach (nice and easy) Bryan tried to propose here, but it was closed due to Covid. He made an impromptu proposal at the nearby River Path Del Mar.

Torrey Pines Gliderport

Gliderport Trail, San Diego, CA 92037

Paragliding off the cliff and over the ocean. Al and Sean have both taken a thrilling ride. Great place for the ocean view or to watch others flying up and down the coast.

Balboa Park

San Diego, CA
, (619) 239-0512

Trails, museums, and gardens to explore. The San Diego Zoo is world famous. Shannon's favorite is the Japanese Friendship Garden, but the Desert Garden and Rose Garden don't require tickets and are also beautiful.

Belmont Park

3146 Mission Boulevard, San Diego, CA 92109

Beach boardwalk and amusement park featuring the Giant Dipper roller coaster, right on the beach and next to the bonfire spot. Overpriced as expected.

Birch Aquarium at Scripps

See and touch incredible sea life at this amazing aquarium. Advance tickets required.

San Diego Zoo

Zoo Drive, San Diego, CA 92101

Bryan grew up as a member, and took regular trips to the zoo with his grandparents.

Farmers Market

San Diego has great Farmers Markets, and you better go hungry! Little Italy’s is open Saturday 8am-2pm and Hillcrest is open Sunday 9am-2pm. Don’t miss the coconut pancakes at Thai Chef Saranya and ask for the sauce.
