Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Brynne Feldman and Andrés Valdez
IRTRA & the Wedding Weekend The wedding will take place at IRTRA, a resort-style complex of hotels and theme parks in Retalhuleu, about 112 miles (180 km) from Guatemala City. It feels like a small vacation town: themed hotels, pools, gardens, restaurants, a spa and three different parks all in one place. It’s the perfect setting for a family-and-friends destination wedding. During the weekend you can relax by the pool, explore the parks, enjoy nature or simply unwind with good food and tropical views. Pack light, breathable clothes, a swimsuit and sunscreen—the weather is warm and humid and ideal for spending time outdoors.
Hostales (Hotels)

Hostales (Hotels)

Retalhuleu, Retalhuleu, Guatemala

IRTRA’s “Hostales” are the on-site hotels where most guests will stay. They include themed hotels (Mediterranean, Polynesian, Mayan, African, colonial Guatemalan), cozy cabins and even treehouse-style rooms surrounded by gardens and palm trees. Each area has its own pools, paths and small plazas, and everything is within easy walking distance. There are several restaurants and bars with Guatemalan, Mexican and Asian options, plus a spa and Mil Palmeras, a Hawaiian-inspired beach-club area. It’s the perfect base for the wedding weekend: relax, explore, eat and swim without ever leaving the property.

Xetulul Guatemala

Xetulul Guatemala

San Martin Zapotitlán, Retalhuleu, Guatemala

Xetulul is IRTRA’s main theme park, with plazas inspired by Guatemala and Europe, colorful architecture and lots of rides. You’ll find areas that look like Italy, France, Spain and more, plus a Guatemalan town square and a Mayan pyramid replica. The park has roller coasters, spinning rides, flying swings and many family attractions, so you can choose how adventurous you want to be. There is also a magic show during the day, which is a fun option if you prefer to sit, relax and be entertained for a while.

Xocomil

Xocomil

Unnamed Road, Retalhuleu, Retalhuleu, Guatemala

Xocomil is IRTRA’s water park, all about slides and adrenaline. It’s themed around Mayan culture, with temples, lush vegetation and lots of water rides: high-speed slides, tubes, funnels, a lazy river and a big wave pool. It’s the best spot if you love thrill rides and getting soaked, from family attractions to more intense drops. Bring your swimsuit, water shoes if you have them, and plan to spend energy here – it’s fun, loud and very alive, especially on sunny days.

Xejuyup IRTRA

Retalhuleu, Retalhuleu, Guatemala

Xejuyup is IRTRA’s nature and adventure park. Here you’ll find walking trails, giant slides, horseback riding, an aviary with colorful macaws and a small farm with animals. It’s perfect if you enjoy being outdoors, taking it slow and exploring green spaces. It actually ended up being Wendy’s favorite park because of its beautiful gardens and lush, tropical vegetation. On some days there’s even an afternoon horse show.

Club Mil Palmeras

Club Mil Palmeras

San Martin Zapotitlán, Retalhuleu, Guatemala

Mil Palmeras is IRTRA’s newest club area, inspired by Pacific islands and Hawaiian beach culture. It sits by the Samalá River and is surrounded by hundreds of palm trees, sports courts (tennis, soccer, basketball, beach volleyball), and several themed plazas for dining, relaxing and events. You’ll find a tropical restaurant (Mauna Loa), a large pool area with spaces for adults and kids, a bar, and spots for massages and outdoor relaxation. It’s a great place to spend a laid-back afternoon between wedding events: swim, grab a drink, play a game or just enjoy the tropical scenery.

Spa & Sports Club – Los Corozos

Calle Irtra, Retalhuleu, Retalhuleu, Guatemala

Even though we’re lucky to have the Spa ELYSIUM team joining us as guests, IRTRA also has its own sports club and spa on-site: Spa y Club Deportivo Los Corozos. It’s a great place to unwind, get an amazing massage, enjoy the sauna or jacuzzi, and fully recover on Sunday after the wedding. You can also book a manicure or pedicure (and other treatments) if you want to look extra perfect for the party. The club also has a gym, tennis courts, squash and racquetball courts, and even a bowling alley for some friendly competition.

Restaurants & Bars at IRTRA

Restaurants & Bars at IRTRA

CITO-180, Retalhuleu, Guatemala

IRTRA has lots of options for every taste, and these are our favorites: 1. La Hacienda (Mexican): Great for breakfast or any meal. Try the chilaquiles, tacos (with cheese!), Aztec soup and Brynne’s favorite dish: pescado tumbado. 2. Kapa Hapa (Asian fusion): Asian-inspired food by the pool. We love it for breakfast: Huevos Rancheros Sureños, shakshuka and Turkish eggs. For later, they have sushi, ramen and other Asian dishes. 3. El Aldeano (Guatemalan): Perfect if you want local food. Andrés always orders the mojarra frita (whole fried fish). Also good: tortilla soup, black bean cream, empanadas, Pepián, Subanik and atol de elote (sweet corn drink). 4. Mauna Loa (Hawaiian-style): Tropical restaurant with a Guatemalan twist. Honestly you can explore the whole menu, everything we’ve tried has been great. There are also other restaurants, snack bars and dessert spots around the resort. Most menus are only in Spanish, so Google Translate can help. Enjoy trying new things at IRTRA!

Finca San Diego

Finca San Diego

CA

Finca San Diego is a small, adorable themed farm that’s perfect for a quick visit, since there’s so much else to see at IRTRA. It has delicious snacks and ice cream, and lots of animals in a very cute, well-kept area. If you stop by, make sure you say hi to Brynne’s best friend: Hortencia, the sweetest baby cow you’ll ever meet. 🐮💛
