If you enjoyed the photos from our vacation in Norway last summer, now's your chance to experience Washington's very own "Little Norway!" Poulsbo has been nationally recognized for its Scandinavian cultural heritage and small town charm. Spend the morning before our wedding exploring Poulsbo's walkable downtown district and picturesque waterfront, you'll have plenty of bakeries, coffee shops, and stores to choose from.
Our wedding venue is located on the ancestral territory of the Suquamish ("people of the clear salt water”), who are one of several tribes that thrived in the Salish Sea for thousands of years prior to the arrival of European settlers. Despite centuries of federal assimilation policies that attempted to erase their culture, the Suquamish have revived teachings of their native Lushootseed language and even created a comprehensive tribal housing program. The Suquamish Museum honors these efforts and further explores the history of the Pacific Northwest's original inhabitants.
If you're not in a rush to take the ferry back to Seattle after our wedding, Bloedel Reserve is a beautiful outdoor space worth exploring on Bainbridge Island. After purchasing the 140-acre property in 1951, Virginia and Prentice Bloedel spent over thirty years working with renowned landscape architects to sculpt today's public garden and forest preserve. These gardens offer a welcoming space where anyone can enhance their connection with the natural world.
Retrace our footsteps to where some of our most cherished memories have occurred. Lake Serene was the first place we ever hiked to together in March of 2016. Exactly seven years (and one day) later, it also became where our engagement began. This trail is approximately 8 miles long round-trip with 2,000 feet of elevation gain, so make sure you arrive prepared for a moderate to strenuous hike. We think the views are more than worth the effort though.
If you return to Seattle early enough the morning after our wedding, you can't miss our beloved Sunday farmers market! We've lived in the Ballard neighborhood for nearly six years and we're constantly discovering exciting new vendors and delicious treats to enjoy. You'll love strolling through one of Seattle's best-preserved historic downtown areas, especially while devouring one (or four) of many late breakfast options.
If you choose to extend your stay in Washington after the wedding, Olympic National Park is the perfect destination for those seeking adventure in the most ecologically diverse wilderness area in the United States. The Olympic Peninsula offers ample opportunities for coastal tide pool searching, gloomy old-growth rainforest wandering, and alpine mountain hiking. Notable points of interest include Hurricane Ridge, Sol Duc Falls, Lake Crescent, Marymere Falls, Mount Storm King, Rialto Beach, Ruby Beach, Kalaloch Beach, and the Hoh Rainforest.
