The peak of Aspen Mountain is 11,212 feet. A trip to the top of the mountain on the Silver Queen Gondola will include spectacular views and delicious food and is a must while you are in town! Feel free to bring lunch with you or buy it at the top. Kevin and I love to enjoy the view of the entire town and view of Highlands Bowl from the sundeck. We've hiked Highlands Bowl in the winter and skied down! It was awesome and terrifying :)
The Maroon Bells are two of the most photographed mountains in all of North America — and for good reason. Rising more than 14,000 feet above sea level just south of Aspen, the twin peaks are striped with snow all summer long, Aspen trees drape the hillsides, and Maroon Lake provides a perfect mirror reflection of all the beauty. *NOTE: Reservations are required to access the Bells by vehicle or by RFTA shuttle: https://aspenchamber.org/plan-trip/trip-highlights/maroon-bells/reservations
From June 12 to October 9, spend your Saturday mornings at the Aspen Farmer's Market. Since 1998 it has been a local's tradition to stroll through the market buying Colorado-grown produce and Colorado-produced artisan products. Open on Saturdays from 8:30 AM - 2 PM, the market offers Colorado-grown fruits, vegetables, bread, meats, jams, and more as well as a food court for lunch or a snack.
Summer on Snowmass is super fun! The resort hosts fun activities throughout the whole season. We recommend taking the gondola up to Elk Camp and riding the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster! We will be sharing a discount code here closer to our wedding date :)
The North Star Nature Preserve is a beautiful area off Independence Pass (just outside downtown Aspen). There is a lovely path for walking or biking along. If interested, you can also float the river or have a nice picnic on the "beach." If you drive by at dawn or dust, there is a chance you will spot some elk or even a moose!
Located eleven miles up Castle Creek Road, the silver mining ghost town features the restored remains of several historical buildings, including a saloon, post office, and hotel. A docent is on site during open hours and interpretive signage tells the stories of the former boom town nestled among spectacular alpine meadows at the storied headwaters of Castle Creek.
Horseback rides are another super fun way to explore Maroon Bells! T7 Lazy Ranch does a 2-hour ride (which is my favorite) as you stay along the Maroon Creek and see Pyramid Peak and the Bells. They have a lot of different options though :)
E-bikes are one of the most fun ways to explore the area! You can cover so much ground so quickly. We love to start on the Rio Grande Trail and go up to the North Star Nature Preserve. If e-bikes are not your thing, you can't go wrong with walking along the trail either! We will be sharing a discount code here closer to our wedding date :)
Downtown Aspen has so much going on all year round. Window shop at some of the high-end luxury brands, peruse local artists' latest masterpieces, watch the dogs play at Wagner Park, or snag some peace and quiet in the John Denver sanctuary. Simply walking around town is a great way to spend a day!
There are rafting companies that will take you through the Roaring Fork or the Colorado! Getting on the water is always so exhilarating and refreshing on a hot summer day. I'd say go through an Aspen company if you are staying in that area. If you have the means to venture down valley, we recommend Whitewater Rafting LLC. We've had fun trips with them before and they're only 5 minutes from our house!
Featured in our above picture! Everything from here is amazing. Amy's favorite treat is their Cinnamon Apple Streusel muffin! Kevin usually gets sausage and cheese on a croissant. Stop by in the afternoon for some ice cream too!
