A true Meet-Cute Evening...

11/22/2018

Over the years Rom Coms have taught us that all great love stories start with a Meet-Cute. Let's set the stage for Tom & Kerry's initial meeting: Kerry’s parents had left her on one of the coldest Thanksgivings on record for the warmth of New Smyrna Beach, but as a strike of good luck, Kerry's friend Amanda invited her to celebrate turkey day at her Uncle Pat & Aunt Nancy's home. After a delicious dinner, a few exciting rounds of Left-Right-Center, Amanda & Kerry set off back to the city. The two met up with their Steph in Southie at the only local watering hole open on Thanksgiving, The Playwright. Meanwhile, on the South Shore, Tommy had spent the evening with Kelly, Lindsay, and his parents in Duxbury enjoying the holiday. When Tom decided to go back home to the city, he met up with his college goalie, Scottie, who was in town visiting from the west coast. They soon found out the only bar open in Southie was the Playwright. The stage had been set. Not long after they all arrived at the bar, the two groups of friends merged, and Tom & Kerry were introduced. Like any boisterous Thanksgiving should, the night ended with dice games, cards, and too much red wine. From there, a friendship was born, and Kerry could formally be described as head over heels when Tom adopted Maisey as his own, and proudly proclaimed, "I'm not a dog guy, I'm a Moo guy!"

The Engagement

May 6, 2022

Tom finally managed to get Kerry to put work down when he mentioned they were having an early date night. Intrigued by the promise of carbs and a great Negroni, she, of course, obliged. She should have known something was up when they were the only 2 people in the restaurant for their 5PM reservation, despite Tom proclaiming that it was the only one they had available on the website. On the walk home, Kerry let out a tiny toot. Blushing, she said, "Excuse me! Good thing you love me so much, although, at this rate, I'm going to have to ask you to marry me! I'm not getting you a ring though!" Tom didn't laugh, which was weird to Kerry, because as we all know, she thinks she's hilarious. Just a few blocks later as they were passing by Tom's old apartment, Tom tried to distract Kerry saying they were building onto his old roof deck, which she ignored and simply stated, "That wouldn't pass zoning." By the time she turned back around, Tom was on one knee, not saying an awful lot, but shaking and mumbling something about marriage. Tom still claims to have had a whole speech planned but was too nervous to get it out. Kerry was instantly in his arms, too excited to say anything other than, "I love you, YES!" This perfect moment was caught by Lindsay (Tom's sister) who was secretly taking photos of them the entire time. Kerry and Tom will be eternally grateful for those photos as they both agree the moment of the actual proposal was a bit of a blur. Not to rely on only one surprise for the evening, Tom really outdid himself when Kerry, Tom & Lindsay walked around the corner to their back deck where their families and closest Boston friends were waiting to celebrate with them. Cue the ugly crying for Kerry, and a moment of pride for Tom as he was finally able to surprise Kerry with a night she truly did not see coming.
