Monserrate is a must see when in Bogota. You take a cable car up to the highest peak overlooking the city where a beautiful cathedral is located. This peak is called Monserrate. There are beautiful walking trails, cafes and restaurants, and unparalleled views. Important: Brooke had the best arepa of her life in a cafe on Monserrate called Santa Clara.
Go here for the best empanadas in Bogotá. Truly life changing. It's a good idea to make a day trip of this outing and walk around the neighborhoods where this small restaurant is located: particularly La Candelaria. Nearby is the Gold Museum (Museo del Oro) and the Botero Museum (Museo Botero) and the Plazoleta del Chorro de Quevedo (a historic square featuring street murals, colonial architecture, and cafes). There is lots to see in this area, however, we recommend that you keep it a day trip and leave before it gets dark. As it's an area with tourists, there is a history of pickpocketing after dark.
Incredible Museum on the history of Gold in Colombia and South America. Tons of history and art.
Every Saturday and Sunday the Usaquén Flea Market hosts local artists and vendors selling their goods. You can find beautiful jewelry (including fair priced Colombian emeralds), clothing, art, bags, and more. I always come here when looking for gifts to bring back for family and friends. It's best on Saturday and Sunday, however, you will find a smaller selection of vendors there all throughout the week. This is a great area to visit with some highly recommended cafes and restaurants such as Osaki Usaquén.
A beautiful park, perfect for picnics or nice strolls. You can walk to some great restaurants from here: Ko Asian Kitchen, Cacio & Pepe, Crepes & Waffles, Wok, The Click Clack Hotel Rooftop Bar.
This incredible restaurant is located walking distance from HAB Hotel, it is rated on the top 50 restaurants in South America and it lives up to its reputation. Additionally, the chef and owner is the cousin of a great friend of ours and she always helps us design the perfect menu.
A perfect place to go if you are looking to try elevated and creative twists on traditional Colombian dishes.
If you're wanting to go out dancing, we recommend Theatron. It's a huge nightclub with 12 different themed rooms with different DJs and events. Bring as little as you can (but don't forget an ID and pesos for cover).
Tejo!
