Question

I need help. Who should I reach out to with questions or for advice on travel plans?

Answer

Reach out to me (Brooke) or Juan! We are so happy to help you plan your trip and support you through the process as needed. Truly, don't be shy! Offer ends January 1st, 2025. At that point, call or text our wedding planner, Eli +57(300)792 4901. She will be able to help with any last-minute needs. Can't wait to see you all!

Question

When should I arrive in Bogota? When should I leave after the wedding?

Answer

We are so excited you are planning to join us for our wedding! Here is some information that will hopefully make planning your trip a little easier. Starting January 5th, we will be in Bogota to spend time with family and friends before the wedding. You are invited to spend this time with us! There will be some day trips, meals, and other casual fun. It's intended to be an open-ended time to see one another and explore the beautiful city of Bogota. We encourage you to stay in the Chapinero Neighborhood of Bogota and have made a hotel block for your convenience at HAB Hotel. Another great option is to book an airbnb in this neighborhood. On Friday, January 10th a shuttle will be leaving for Villa de Leyva from HAB Hotel. After the wedding, there are two different ways to get back to Bogota depending on your travel plans. We will have a shuttle returning on January 12th at 2pm. Also, there are hourly express busses from Villa de Leyva to Bogota. The bus station is walking distance from Casa Alcestre and you pay the bus driver in cash (Colombian pesos) if you need to depart earlier than 2pm. Plan for a 3.5 hour drive.

Question

Any Helpful Tips for Traveling in Colombia?

Answer

Yes! Here is a list of travel tips, things specific to Colombia that might catch you off guard. 1. When using a credit card at shops or restaurants you may be asked "¿Cuántas cuotas?" this translates to "How many quotes?" meaning, "Would you like to pay the entire amount in one transaction or split the full amount into multiple payments over time?" Generally, we are used to paying the full amount and thus you can respond: "Una cuota, por favor." (Note: interest is charged when breaking up the amount into multiple payments, so one is best). 2. In Colombia, it is customary and considered respectful to great people when entering a space where they are. For example, if you walk into a store, it is customary to turn to the attendant and say, "Buenos Dias" or "Hola." Often times, in US culture, we may smile or nod but remain silent. 3. Restrooms are sometimes labeled "M" for Mujer (Woman) and "H" for Hombre (Man). Best not to confuse this with the English M for Man. However, the majority of places have pictures or full words to help prevent this confusion. 4. Uber: we recommend using Uber to get around during your visit. A couple things to note are: 1. Sometimes, the driver will beckon you to sit in the front seat, oblige them on this if you can. There are some places where Uber is technically not allowed, such as the airport, however, it is still the best, safest, and cheapest option for travelers. Therefore, having someone sit in the front seat will help ensure that the driver is not flagged as an Uber driver. 2. If it is taking you a while to find a driver on Uber, selecting the cash option for payment will sometimes get you a ride faster. 5. Be mindful and don't drink tap water or ice. It is best to buy bottled water only during your travels. 6. Tipping: Servers will ask, "Would you like to include the service?" when you ask for the check. This is indicating a tip of 10%. That is the standard amount. Note as well, there is an 8% tax at restaurants.
