I never believed in love at first sight. I thought it was something that rom-coms used as an easy way to drive the plot in a movie when they couldn't figure out a creative way to introduce the two characters who would eventually fall in love. And while I still wouldn't call myself an advocate of the theory, I can vividly remember the first time meeting Victoria and being completely awestruck. In one of the most stereotypically Aggie ways, Victoria and I met right outside the Memorial Student Center (Texas A&M's student union) with me wearing my Corps of Cadets ROTC uniform. I had been a camp counselor for Victoria's younger sister, Liddie, that past summer and was there to take her around an organization fair on campus, and Victoria had tagged along. From our first meeting and walking around the MSC, I was taken by Victoria's kindness, joy, and outgoing personality. I wasn't sure how, at the time, I was going to make it happen, but I had envisioned myself being with Victoria one day. God had a very windy road in mind when bringing Victoria and me together that required a lot of patience, particularly on her part. For most of 2020, I was discerning the Catholic priesthood, a calling that has with it a life of celibacy. Throughout this, Victoria was trusting in God's decision-making and prayed for me and what God would ultimately have planned for the both of us. At the end of 2020, I realized that I wasn't called to the vocation of being a priest, and several months later, Victoria and I went on our first date. It was something that had been a long time in the making but proved to be well worth the wait for both of us. From there, I came to love Victoria more and more in the simplicity of our lives together, and we had the opportunity to continue growing in relationship and virtue together through time in prayer and attending Mass at St. Mary's. God continued to guide us as Victoria entered PA school and I started medical school in the fall of 2022. And although I did my best to surprise her, I think she was expecting when I proposed at the Arboretum in Dallas on December 30. We are filled with gratitude and joy for all of the wonderful opportunities and people that God has placed in our lives. We've been to four countries, fifteen states, and nine national parks, but I know the most exciting things in our lives are still yet to come. We look forward to celebrating with you all on December 16 as we look towards our upcoming sacramental union.
