When we started to kick it

March 2012

Brian and Ivey met while working at a television production company in 2010 but alas, they were dating other people. By 2012, they both found themselves single and decided to meet for a date at Nita Nita in Brooklyn. Ivey asked that the date be on a Saturday, which Brian would later find out was so that Ivey would know that it was 'serious'. She would later tell him that people who aren't serious want to meet-up on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Giving up a Saturday night meant something, she said. Anyways, Ivey was late (because the damn L train!) so Brian had a lot of time to be nervous. I mean, he was surprised she even agreed to meet up because he thought she was kinda out of his league. (And let's be honest she is). He waited and waited and looked at her facebook profile and it reaffirmed that she was way out of his league. He texted his friend Jenny for advice. She said "be cool!" (or something to that effect). She was no help. He tried to order another drink, but in came Ivey. She was the most beautiful girl he had seen (since looking at her facebook profile). She was funny and weird and they talked to each other with the same ease and grace and madness that they do now. Her smile is magic. Ivey and Brian went on many dates in the city, and during their first October together they headed out to New Paltz. Ivey went to undergrad there and couldn't wait to show it to Brian. Sure enough, he instantly fell for the relaxed vibe and loved traipsing around New Paltz's graveyards, wineries, and mountainside vistas. Fast forward to six-plus years later, and they're getting married on top of the most famous of New Paltz's mountains, The Mohonk Mountain House.
