How We Met

Best friends take a chance

We originally met in 2011 when Brittany went back home to SLC to visit family. As usual during that time, she went clubbing with her cousins and friends. Her cousin, Brandon, who was already friends with Hung, invited him and his friends to come party with their group at their table. Splitting ways, it was just a normal fun night out with friends. Over the next few months, Brittany would hear Hung's name come up in stories from outings that her closest friends and cousins would tell her. He had become a part of the circle of friends. In 2012, Brittany was laid off from her first corporate job in Seattle and decided to move back to SLC for the summer to figure her life out. Taking some time for "FUNemployment" she partied her little heart out with family and friends that summer. Hung and Brittany became quick friends after discovering their love for new experiences and trying new foods. The foodie pair quickly bonded over trying all sorts of different cuisine around the Salt Lake valley. They spent almost every day together and became best friends. It had reached a point when all of their friends and Brittany's family had just assumed they were a couple. At some point, it came true. They gave dating a try. P.S. During Brittany's summer of "FUNemployment" they found out they went to the same high school for one year together. They were in different grades (senior and sophomore) so they never met each other.

The rest of the journey

Details of our journey

Shortly after starting a new relationship, Brittany received a job offer which would move her back up to Seattle. With 48 hours notice, she made the move back up and their relationship became a long distance one. After dating long distance for about 5 months they made plans for Hung to move up. Hung had been wanting to leave Utah for a while and it was the perfect opportunity. They moved in with Brittany's cousin for a couple months until they got on their feet, Hung got a job, and they found an apartment in Renton, WA which would be their first home together. During their time in Renton this is when most of their travels abroad happened. Brittany became obsessed with travel and any opportunity they could squeeze a vacation abroad in, they'd snag it up. After 5 years in Renton, WA they moved to South Lake Union, Seattle. For YEARS friends had been recommending they move closer to the city core because they always drove into the city to continue their exploration of new foods and Brittany always knew she was a city girl at heart. Her work had moved to SLU so it was the perfect opportunity to move into the city and be able to walk to work. They absolutely LOVED living in South Lake Union. They spent most mornings walking to Lake Union and meditating, spending lunches walking to the food trucks that gathered around the Amazon campus and Google buildings, and urban hiking all over the city during the weekends. When the pandemic happened, their little 600 sq ft downtown living began to feel restricting and probably what prompted most of their walks around the town just to get out and about. Brittany began to search Zillow and Redfin for homes just casually. Living in a midrise without a balcony or anywhere to step outside felt so limiting. There was no where to go without needing to put a mask on. She would send potential listings to Hung, who had no interest in looking at homes on the market when he spent most of his day working and looking at homes! Finally, at the end of 2021, Brittany found a home that she REALLY wanted to check out. They didn't think they'd ever be able to afford a home in the Seattle market - especially any time soon since they hadn't been saving money for a down payment in particular. After convincing Hung to drop by and tour the home, they decided to see if they even qualified for anything. You know, just for "funsies". To their surprise, they pre-qualified and the next day set out to look at a 2nd home....4 days later they were under contract on the 2nd home and would be closing in the new year, January 2022. In between those 6 days, they had multiple conversations about opting to buy the home instead of having a wedding celebration. Enter 2022, they had a new home which they absolutely adore. They've become friends with their community of neighbors who are better than they ever could have dreamed.

What festivities took place?

Celebrating our marriage

During Labor Day weekend, a few friends and Hung's brothers all contributed to planning the N'awlins Crawl - a trip to New Orleans in celebration of Brittany & Hung's upcoming nuptials. They married on October 28, 2022 in Park City, Utah in their hotel suite surrounded by immediate family - Linda Ryerson (Brittany's mom), Faye Aoyama (Brittany's grandma), Dung Nguyen (Hung's dad), Thu Nguyen (Hung's mom), Tien, Van & Stephen Nguyen (Hung's brothers) and were married by Stephen. In celebration they went to Alpine Distilling for drinks while waiting for their dinner reservations at the Riverhorse on Main. After everyone spent the night in Park City, they went to 5 Seeds for a delicious brunch.
