How We Met

November 2010

Brit and Jessica Jay were the toast of LA, roommate goals, on a strict gym regimen, clean-eating, perfectly-posed pics, killer tans and double-filtered water. Regularly hitting clubs with Tyler True, they then befriended Dena, Pete, & Justin (see Wedding Party.) They all decided to have their first (of 9) Friendsgivings together. And Dena said “I’m gonna invite my friend James too,” which Britnie ignored cause she was in party-theme mode. After a decadent feast, games, costume contests, boxed wine, laughter, and hilarious pictures and videos, the night needily died down. James & Tyler decide to irresponsibly go out for a drink, then Britnie awakes later to the doorbell ring. “I’ll have some wine with you!” Britnie says to James, as Tyler is occupied in the living room. They talked about Lasik Eye Surgery and James solved a Rubiks cube. James even asked Britnie to take a picture with him “so he could show Santa what he wants for christmas.” More ridiculous late night chatter continued, until they innocently called it a night. Days after, they shyly kept in contact, then planned for James to help Brit & Jess get a christmas tree. The chemistry was undeniable. Ups and downs, parties and raves, 100 Vegas trips, growing up, working hard, moving in, finally getting tired, two adorable dogs, jokes and raps, and now a wedding. It’s been an adventure and it’s just beginning.

The Proposal

February 22, 2019

It was February 2019 when Britnie and James took one step closer to spending the rest of their lives together. James, aware of Britnie’s intelligence and cunningness, schemed to plan the best surprise-wedding proposal. He thought, "how can I make this proposal special and share it with all of our close family and friends?" Then a genius idea popped into his head, “I’ll have Britnie plan a surprise birthday party for me.” James called his best friends Joe and Tyler to discuss the clever idea. They were both thrilled and immediately called Britnie to set up the fake surprise. James then called all their family and friends to bring them in on the plan. Britnie's parents and sister booked flights that day. From there on, Britnie did all heavy lifting. She set up a Facebook invite page, booked the venue, selected the food, and even purchased balloons spelling out James’s name. While James on the other hand, sat back and listened to all their friends tell him how Britnie was so excited and it was going to be the biggest surprise birthday party he’d ever have. Little did she know that she was in for a big surprise. Finally the day arrived. All their friends were at the venue with Britnie, patiently waiting to surprise James when he walked in. “Surprise!” they all yelled. James acting very astonished, tried to keep his composure throughout the party. Everyone shared laughs and hugs before the big moment. Then it was time to bring out the cake. They all sang happy birthday while her parents and sister snuck in. Then after blowing out the candles, James calmly whispers in Britnie’s ear, “I love you and Bue more than anything in this world. This is my only wish.” Then he got down on one knee and asked, “Britnie Anne Hanks will you marry me?” After almost fainting and shocked by seeing her parents, Britnie said “yes!” Tears were shed with happiness and everyone showered them with congratulations. This was the best surprise birthday party James could ask for.
