First Date

3/24/2019 at Roc Brewing

Brie and Matt initially connected through a dating app called Bumble. The two of them had been pretty worn down by the dating world and were at a point where they weren't interested in anything that wasn't meaningful. Because of that, they exchanged a few messages over a week or so and then decided to meet and see what happens! Better to know if there is a connection early than text back and forth with a person that you will end up not "vibing" with right?! Their first date was ... interesting. I say that the date was "interesting" because it most definitely was not a case of instant connection or love at first sight. They both left that first date thinking "I like this person and I'm ok seeing them again". The date consisted of Matt struggling to make eye contact while the two of them tried to bounce around from one topic to the next. A few tabletop games were played to break the ice, and then before they knew it the date was over! The beauty of their relationship is that it has been built with layers. First dates don't need to blow you away. As they dated they gradually learned more and more about one another, and slowly built a connection so strong that you would have thought that they instantly hit it off the first minute they saw each other that day at the brewery. Brie grew to love tabletop games, James Brown's (a diner in Rochester), and trips to the Carrier Dome. Matt found an appreciation for the Great British Baking Show, the sights and sounds of Ithaca NY, and now has an adopted son (their dog Bruce)! During all of those hikes and gaming sessions Brie and Matt have shared and experienced so much together! All because of a shared beer on that day in 2019!

Brie Said Yes!

4/24/2021 on Bear Den Mountain

So if you know Brie and Matt, you know that they love to hike in the mountains. They like LOVE LOVE LOVE to hike. It's just their thing! Rochester had recently had a spell of unseasonably warm weather and the couple decided that they needed to do a day trip to the Adirondacks ASAP! Because of the time of year a big mountain (a 46er) was off the table, unless they wanted to bring all the gear necessary for a summer AND winter hike. They settled on Bear Den Mountain due to it's small size, it's membership in the Lake Placid 9 hiking challenge, along with it's proximity to Whiteface Mountain. The views of a snow covered Whiteface from Bear Den had to be amazing! Brie and Matt drove up to the Lake Placid area that morning, pulled into the Whiteface ski resort, and parked the car at the Bear Den Mountain trailhead. The hike was fun and the air was crisp! Little did Brie know but Matt was carrying a surprise! At the top of the mountain Matt asked the group of people that were already there if they would mind taking a picture of them. Brie didn't think anything of it, but she SHOULD HAVE! When has Matt willingly jumped into a photo opportunity?! Never! Your answer is never! After the picture was taken, the woman taking the picture asked the couple if they wanted to do something crazy or weird for another picture. It was at that EXACT MOMENT that Matt knew it was his time to strike. He got on one knee, mumbled a few unintelligible words, and pulled out the ring. WHAMMO! It was done. The rest as we say, is history!
