“Buchette del vino" are small, hinged openings in the walls of certain historic buildings that were used for selling vino during the Renaissance. Some notable places where you might find these watering holes today include Buca Lapi, Osteria Belle Donne, Cantinetta Antinori, and Enoteca Alessi.
There are plenty of places to eat, so we won’t give too lengthy of a list. But some of our favorite eateries include I' Girone De' Ghiotti, Trattoria Sant'Agostino, Trattoria Antico Fattore, Ristorante del Fagioli, Osteria Cinghiale Bianco, and Ristorante Mastro Ciliegia.
This one is obvious, as our venue is nestled in the heart of Chianti. In addition to Castello di Gabianno’s vineyards and tasting room, a number of other estates are a short drive or bike ride away (more on that below). Tenuta del Palagio and Costello del Grevepesa are just a 5 minute car ride away. A personal favorite is Mauricio Brogoni, which is a little further away but offers a serene tasting experience with incredible cheeses and olive oils, and features beautiful views of the vineyards and olive groves.
Just a 15 minute drive from our venue, you’ll find the charming town of Greve in Chianti. It is well-known for its Chianti Classico wine and olive oil production, with a picturesque square and shops. Renting e-bikes in Greve in Chianti can be a fantastic way to explore the beautiful countryside and vineyards at your own pace. You can rent an e-bike from the tourist information office in the town’s main square, Piazza Matteotti. The square itself features a triangular-shaped marketplace surrounded by historical buildings and arcades. You can do a wine tasting at a family-owned winery just off the square called Leonardo Manetti. There are numerous other wine estates, cellars, and olive groves in the surrounding countryside where you can taste and purchase local wines and olive oil.
Montefioralle is a charming medieval village nestled in the hills just above Greve in Chianti. It is known for its well-preserved medieval architecture. Take a leisurely stroll through its narrow, winding streets lined with stone houses adorned with flowers. And if you’re hungry, we recommend Il Guerrino, which offers traditional Tuscan dishes made with local ingredients and a terrace that provides breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.
This might require a car, but you can also check out nearby historic villages such as Castellina in Chianti, Radda in Chianti, and Panzano. These villages offer medieval architecture, churches, and small museums to visit.
