From downtown Athens, you can enter University of Georgia's beautiful and historic North Campus at the corner of E Broad Street and College Ave. This is where the famous UGA Arch is located. Tradition is that UGA students never walk under this arch until after they have officially graduated! Continue to explore North Campus and ring the famous Chapel Bell towards the back of the UGA Chapel. From here, you can reach Herty Field with its beautiful green lawn and cascading water fountain. This is a perfect location for pictures! From the Herty Field water fountain, it's about an 8 minute walk to Sanford Stadium, home of the famous Georgia Bulldawgs football team!
Don't forget while browsing around campus to check out the infamous Sanford Stadium, home of the Georgia Bulldawgs. GO DAWGS! Games played there are said to be played "between the hedges" due to the field being surrounded by privet hedges, which have been a part of the design of the stadium since it opened in 1929. The view of Georgia's campus and rolling hills from the open west end-zone has led many to refer to Sanford Stadium as college football's "most beautiful on-campus stadium."
Admission is free to the official state museum of art! Founded in 1945, the Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia houses a permanent collection of more than 18,000 works of art as well as 20 to 25 temporary exhibitions a year.
