Brice and Bobby first met on the popular online dating app Grindr in 2013. After a few weeks of silly flirting and playful banter online, we discovered we had a mutual friend, Clint Collins. Clint was in graduate school with Bobby at Moss Landing Marine Labs and played beach volleyball in Santa Cruz with Brice. After passing Clint’s background check, we decided to meet up for a date at Zameen for dinner and some cocktails. Brice got to hear all about Bobby’s life, his lively Cuban family, his passion for marine biology and his past ambitions to write young adult fiction. After the first date, Bobby wasn't really sure if there was a spark and whether there would be a second date, but Brice was captivated and asked Bobby out on another date. Brice didn’t get any words in until the third date (kidding, kind of) but Bobby slowly got to know Brice’s sweet and silly side over the next few months. Despite completely different personalities, upbringings, and communication styles we found over time that we share similar priorities, core values, and a love of humor. Throw in a year apart with Bobby in Wisconsin, Bengal cats, a couple career changes, and now a pandemic - we somehow made it through learning that together we can hunker down like a limpet and survive just about anything.
